The confusion arose because 2" implies that it goes in a 2" in tow-hitch receiver. This does not appear to utilize a tow-hitch at all, but instead mounts to the spare tire.
 
Ah, I see... I assumed 2 in was referring to the numbers of bikes it carries. Thanks for the clarification...

It DOES NOT use a tow-hitch, it's a SPARE TIRE mount

My husband's mountain bike has 2.4" tires and it fits, but without much more room to spare. Saris sells fat tire wheel holders to replace the wheel holders that come with the rack, if that is what you are looking for - it's quite easy to replace:

What steal! If I didn't already have one I'd be all over this. This is easily the best bike carrier for anyone with a Jeep Wrangler!
