Bike industry failing?

We don't have sales data readily available like cars, how many entry (under 2k), mid level (under 5k), top level bikes are you typically selling. I'm guessing like cars, most profits will be from mid level sales due to volume.

Both brands that I ride. I'm really bummed about GT. I'm holding out hope that they will be resurrected in the future or they allow someone to buy them and continue. I think Rocky will make it through. I think they just made too many bikes and have too many build levels for each model.

There are really just too many bike brands.

PON has Cervelo, Santa Cruz, Cannondale and GT. That's a fair amount of overlap just owned by one company.

Each one designing bikes, marketing bikes, building bikes, etc. That's not even counting Juliana which adds to Santa Cruz costs.

One just needs to look on Upway Bikes
2021-2022 brand new Cannondale Monterra
Specialized Levos same. All sizes absolutely crazy of the overstock, yet I couldn't find a tire at that time.

The biggest fuck up right now is how many companies came out with a Model update this year when they still have a billion of the previous year in stock. Let’s just devalue everything we own, mark it down 80%, and steal sales away from new model so that also ends up having a billion too many in inventory 😂

Well, this is the one thing in the industry that hasn't changed. The difference is the reduced price inventory used to go to dealers who could make a buck and pass along some great deals to customers. Now they all sell direct to cutting out the dealers. Not missing it at all.

A bike is the sum of it's parts. Blame the part companies for making everything by the year.

Why can't a model bike just be the same. Well probably because last years shifter was 9sp and this years is 11.

Not unlike US car companies from the past. Surprised they didn't learn from historical poor practices.

That is normally true but we’re 3 model years at least of current Sram offerings except for new Red.

It sounds like the model is still the big brands try to force the LBSs to buy more than they can sell? That's something that has to change if true. Can't screw the dealers and then turn around and sell direct online.

And Elon Misk isn’t our new President 😂

Woof. Yeah, Rocky is done.

Something also not mentioned much during this turndown is the absolutely bat shit crazy expense to design and build e-bike models to be relevant these days. Only for it to be obsolete on launch day. It’s a big enough expense that a certain company split that portion into it’s own company with it’s own CEO so when it tanks they can dump it and it won’t effect the Amish division. Probably the 1 of 1 smart decision made this year 😂

They make all the money in volume selling those e-bikes for the same price as regular bikes on 50% discount.
