Best way to sell a vehicle privately

I haven't sold a car in ages. Used Autotrader and cars.com in the past. What's the new best way?

Hi Pat,
My daughter sold her car to Algo.
Got the best price and easy transaction. Was recommended by the dealer's salesman as they weren't interested in the trade in.

I’ve sold a few over the past few years, but they were all “enthusiast” vehicles. I advertised through the appropriate enthusiast web site and set the hook…

Despite being a MTB forum used cars sell well on here because someone knows someone who needs one.

That being said I recently sold my sons car off FB marketplace. Yes the wackos and scammers message you but if you are halfway decent at spotting them beforehand it can work out ok.

We sold his car to someone who drove 2+ hours from Philly to buy it for cash after a short test drive. It’s all about the posting and pictures you provide.

Suggest to do some searching around see what comparable ones sell for. Or if you are buying something from a dealer, decide if the hassle is worth it Vs. Taking less money for the old car.

What is your goal? Max price, reasonable price, or just let it go?

F150 is desirable. You make the buyer sign a as is bill of sale.
F150…. Cars and bids for max price

Reasonable price. Dealer offered $16.5 in trade. Most seem to be asking $20k+ for similar.

$16,500 plus the sales tax savings if you're buying something else is more like $17,500. So you'd need to private party for $18,000 to make it worth your while. Which means you're asking $18,500 to $19,000.

Are the trucks you see for $20,000+ at a dealer with a warranty?

Also, are the people that show up to buy an F-150 normal?

When Joy was moving on from her Mustang to the Rav4 I gotta say, trading it in and getting good $$ vs dealing with the people who show up to buy used Mustangs was worth it.

Agree - we got lucky selling my son's car privately.

For the OP ,it just comes down to how much of the in person private sale BS you want to deal with vs. paying the "convenience tax" of just trading it in and taking a few bucks less for it potentially.
