That place looks incredible.
It sounds like your knee wasn't a factor on the trip either. very cool.

Who were your guides? I was at Bald a few years ago. Even with shitty conditions the place was fun. Any bonfire nights? Nelson is a pretty fun town too. Did you guys hit WhiteWater before or after?

My Guides were Joel, Mark (cupcake) and Cordell (meanest cat driver I have ever seen).

One bonfire night but I didn't really care to enjoy it. i was crashing pretty early.

I hit Red Mt the day before. Red is SO killer. I plan on hitting that place again. Great lines and no one there. I remember watching some early videos of craig Kelly riding in Nelson and at Red so it was super to finally hit these spots.

It had not snowed in a few days but we barely crossed any tracks during the trip. We got to hit some steeped aspects as the snow had settled a bit which was a treat. I got buried once up to my neck in a pretty heavy sluff but I managed to come out of it before it came to a stop.

We saw Travis Rice up there in his Red bull heli checking lines for jumps one day. I heard his voice on the radio a bunch. Cordell was driving a cat up the steepest shit I have ever seen to build Travis some mega-booters near the top of one of the peaks. The whole scene up there is such a cowboy deal. Some of the lines from "that's it that's all" are from here also.

I am planning my dates for next season shortly if you are down btw.

All this was bonus as I had written off snowboarding this season due to a bum knee.

I am actually headed for knee surgery this AM, so I have that going for me anyway..

Yeah, that place is definitely cowboy. They know how to farm the terrain and even with the absolute shitty conditions we had, they still got us some good stuff. They followed the sun and knew which runs were getting soft as the day went on. We had to hike a few time but it was worth it. I don't know if they were full of shit - but they said our cat was able to name a run - Room 11 - for the after hours activities that went done in that room :)

The year I went out I was a couple years (Jan 2005) after Craig's accident and the people up there couldn't talk much when his name came up. That's a whole 'nuther topic as I got into riding snowboards when Kelly was tops. Plus he had a BMX background...

Since it's been so long ago my guides are probably long gone - Russ and Chev were animals packed in small packages. Heath who was in the "Let it Ride" film was in another cat but I talked to him a bit being another snowboarder and I helped him and some other guys build a shitty 1/4 pipe after taking runs one day. Cordell definitely sounds familiar - those cat guys were friggen nutso too.

Riding steep stuff is fun but that sluf ride sounds scary! One of the guys had talked about taking a ride and was really close to getting killed. Between that and the tree wells (one guy in our group broke his leg the last day falling in on), shit can get hairy quickly.

The Travis Rice thing is so rad. That dude is amazing.

Some pics from my trip: As you know the pics don't do any justice to the terrain. It's another world.

Yea - maybe next year - let me know when and if you guys go. I'd love to get out there again.

Best of luck with the knee surgery. Sending healing vibes your way.

They said that they have never had a request yet. I found that surprising.

So now they have had one request.

Did customs search hard coming back into the US? I was surprised that when I came back from Jamaica the guy waved me right though.
