I’m a glutton for punishment so we are doing it again – new and improved. Want to get your base miles in this winter? Here's the online race for you.

Objective:
Score as many points as you can. Person with the most points wins.
Start Date: 12/20/12
End date: Feb 28, 2013.

2 categories this year: Sport and Pro

How to Score Points and the Rules:

Sport
Anyone can enter this class, but if you know you are going to put in serious miles, go for the Pro class.

Way to Play
Think of the sport class as a baseball game. The main thing is getting up to bat and getting a hit, so rewards are mainly based on just getting out each day that you can. 2 points will be awarded for getting out any day riding about an hour at least, 1 extra point for every hour after two hours.

Example: Even if you are you riding two separate rides in the day (commuting) it’s the same rules – 1 day of riding for at least an hour = 2 pts. If your commute keeps you on the bike for a total of three hours for the day, that’s 3 pts total. There’s no difference in points for riding on the road or on trail, whether it’s cold or warm, raining or sunny, dark or light. It’s just about getting out on the bike.

Double Days: These are days where all points are doubled for riding:
December 20th and 26th
January 1st, 7th, 13th and 26th
February 1st, 7th, 13th, 19th and 28th

Pro
Anyone can enter this class, but if you know you can’t put in serious miles, go for the sport class.

Way to Play
The Pro class gets awarded for both time and distance, so it will be a little more rule heavy.

The “MikeSU Rule” – points are won for each hour of riding. 1 hour of ride time = 1 point, 2 hours gets you 2 additional points (for a total of three), etc.

Distance – on dirt, Pros will get 1 extra point for breaking 10 miles, 2 points for 20 miles, 3 points for 30 miles and 4 points for 40 miles. On road, Pros will get 1 extra point for breaking 25 miles, 2 points for 50 miles, 3 points for 75 miles and 4 points for a century.

Double Days are the same as the sport double days.

Additional Rules:
There are no caps on the amount of points you can score on any given day. Points will be awarded occasionally for both classes for getting out in terribly cold weather (please see Bad Cop rule below), riding at absurd hours, very entertaining posts, obscene/creative gps files, and other random stuff. Since this an online race, we'll need some recaps and banter. If you add to the fun, you might get a point. These points will be tossed out at the discretion of the site owners, mgmt, or if suggested by fellow participators/online hecklers (with discretion). Think of it as a cross between sprinting in the Tour de France, Who's Line Is It Anyway? and Paydirt.

You'll need to be prepared to document your ride somehow. We'll go on the honor system generally. If you want to post your ride with a link to your strava account or GPS download, go ahead but it is not necessary all the time. There is also an honor system for the riders who are without a GPS, but you should have something occasionally. You don't have to go nuts posting this crap because no one will really care but if you claim it was a 4 hour ride in 4 degrees at 3 in the morning, you can be called out on it and will need to provide proof.

This is for fun, so rules and points will be flexible. Post your ride details in this thread and I will keep score on this post.

Prizes:
Winners will get a trophy, bragging rights for making it through this thing from start to finish, a fantastic beer, and/or something else I can cook up along the way.

Bad Cop's First Rule of Safety & Responsibility:
Anyone who rides trails in the rain, or roads when it snows/sleets shall be subject to no points in the game for that day. In no way do we want the safety of the players or the condition of the trails to be compromised. The point is to have fun, and not to risk ourselves for the sake of a big, albeit good, beer.

Only thing I will say actual file or it didn't happen I don't give a fuck if you don't own a some sort of device. You can manage a cycle computer and camera if you want to go cheap.

Can anyone suggest some decent winter boots so I can win the Sport class?

I think this is fair - there are so many ways that some one can document their ride, even if you don't have a Garmin or fancy phone.

If I bought a cheap computer for every bike I owned/ride, it would cost as much as one device, no?

I am not sure I can handle the points system again. I agree that something needs to shown to document the ride. Other than that wish temp was a factor albeit being the hardest to prove.

Temp and night time or day light will make it a mess like last year. This year looks simple and easy to follow

All the places I gained point are gone. Dark and bad weather conditions were my AITH (minus the Vreeland factor). Take away that stuff and who can't ride their bike in the winter?
