Backup bar light - $6

If you're looking for a really cheap backup light for your bike, I can report that this $6 handlebar mount light is not a total piece of crap - which I fully expected it to be.

Runs on 4 AAA batteries and will give you almost 2 hours on a set of new alkelines. It's surprisingly bright and will definitely get you out of the woods if your primary light fails for whatever reason. The bar mount is pretty rugged and works on both 25.4 and 31.8" bars. I wouldn't recommend it as your main light, but a decent 2nd or backup light.

I do something similar, but even cheaper and possibly brighter. I got a bunch of 9LED flash lights from MicroCenter in Hawthronefor $3 each. These:

Sales tax is only 3% because it is in a development area, or you can pay for shipping.

Then I mount them on my bike using old tubes using this technique:

Here is a good thread on bikeforums:

So far I have 2 on my bars and one on the helmet, but at $3 I can put on like 10 more. But in reality it's more expensive since you need AAA batteries and to make it most effective you'll need NiMH rechargeables.

Maybe I was not clear, but I meant that you can pay the 3% tax by going to the store in Hawthorne or pay the shipping ($5.99 as you pointed out).

Anyway, the main point I was trying to make is that you can mount any flashlight (within reason) on your bike using old tubes.
