Back issues during the Winter

7 years ago my doctor told me I have spinal stenosis, and riding is good because the leg movement helps build muscle in that area (running is bad).
Anywho, I ride very little during the winter, and by spring, I go through some pain.

Anyone have suggestions on any exercises during the winter, besides getting an indoor bike trainer thingy.
Someone told me a stepper is good.

I have been dealing with back pain for 4-5 yrs. Everything I have read says to strengthen the muscles around your core (abs/ low back). Easier said than done when your busy but ive been doing the reverse back extensions as well as ab work alot lately and have found that it definitely is helping. My pain used to kick in when doing any effort longer than 5 minutes especially on the single speed but now it seems to be holding off. Stretching the hamstring at night seems to help too. There really is no easy way to deal with it you just have to put in the time. Good luck

This is how I actually started biking in the first place. For me rock climbing in the gym helps, but that might not work for everyone. It's a great core workout and is a ton of stretching. If you are into smelly chicks, yoga probably offers the same benefit.
