Funny.
Sram advertised their rear derailleurs as being fully rebuildable going back like 20 years or so. However, it seems like they never made the individual parts available to purchase, so if you wanted to replace a part, you needed to have access to a "donor network", which may require one to have friends who MTB, or that you be part of an "enthusiast group". Hmm, might be easier to just buy a few spares....

This is a frustrating part of most manufacturers that don't use off the shelf parts, but everyone (especially SRAM) is guilty of this with gear hubs, in particular. In fact, they bought Sachs just for their chains/shifters, then all but stopped supporting the hubs. They finally killed them totally a few years back.

Shimano doesn't do much better because of how the company is structured...they physically make the parts, but North America doesn't import them. You have to hope that BTI or QBP pesters them enough to order parts from Japan.

BTI doesn't have Sram or Shimano anymore unfortunately.
