Allamuchy Map Question

Does anyone know how accurate the Allamuchy map is in the Allamuchy forum? I'm referring to the second one posted, which indicates that a lot of the trails have color markers now. I haven't actually ridden there in 2 years, save for the 24 hour ride last year, and I don't remember any trail blazes or markers. Have these been added in the meantime?

I guess the underlying question is, will this map prevent me from getting utterly lost if I ride there solo this weekend?

FWIW - i have found the "newer" map to be accurate from the waterloo road entrance, with respect to color blazes, etc. i have ridden solo there on several occasions and did not get lost using that as a reference.

i can't be too sure about the 517/tranquility road entrance, because the one time i rode those trails, i played an agonizing game of follow the leader, and did not refer to a the map. i did however notice the trails were well marked with color blazes and some signs. jay put together some aerials with trail color overlays based on gps data which can be found in the "father's day" thread

more reliable sources of information would be bobw and john over at byram cycleworks on route 206.

What is marked is pretty accurate IMO but there are many trails that aren't on the map that you can easily start your hours of WTF, where am I.

Take a look at the Father's Day ride thread where I posted our GPS data and overlayed a small bit on top of the map. You can see that the trails the map shows are very accurate but you'll also see the unmarked bits.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. Seems like you'd be fine to follow the marked trails, but a lot of the trails you want to ride aren't marked yet.

I need a change of pace from the CR and RV rides. Plus I need to start learning Allamuchy.

Garmin Foretrex 201

This is the first GPS that I'm really happy with because it's wrist mounted and for the most part is unobstructed. As long as I'm pedaling, it can see the sky. Others would lose signal when I would move my body over the handle bars or leave it in a pocket.

It does drop out as all GPS's do but it's not bad at all.
