Allaire trail etiquette question?

Hey all, does the "yield to uphill riders" rule still (generally) apply? I ride quite a bit at Allaire and many seem to have forgotten.....or maybe the etiquette has changed and I wasn't paying attention?

Happy riding!

It's a proper etiquette and generally the rule but even I will yield to someone enjoying a downhill run. Nothing worse then riding around annoyed, I get enough of that driving in NJ. Peace and love makes for a much better ride 🙂

Years ago I got screamed at by a bike shop led group for climbing up one of the power line trails (Grind in the pines segment, reverse dr delicious) - "This is a downhill only buddy!!!!"

Its been a hot topic for a bit. Truthfully some trails just flow so nice going down that if you choose to climb them it would be nice to allow the DH riders to enjoy the flow. Its not like we have so many flow trails at Allaire. Sure, Uphill has the right of way but logic says let the dh have the fun. Obviously this topic is controversial but I agree that it depends on the park and stuff. As I get older I realize that its really no big deal to yield to the dhrs on the dh trails at Allaire. If I was going down I would appreciate it.
Glad ur enjoying the great trails!

I will ad, maybe it was last year, I was hiking with my dog (on a leash) on an uphill section. Some guy is bombing down, not yielding or slowing down at all. I call out as he blasts by "Hiker up! Slow down!" He yells back "Fuck you, this is a mtn bike park!" Speechless.

Welcome to New Jersey; f@#$ you!

Isn't that our state motto?
🤣🤣

I tend to take a defensive position moreso based on self preservation. Ive ridden DH trails all over and between the trail speeds, poor sight lines, lack of traction and inattentive riders, it's just easier to pull off and stop when crawling uphill rather than expect a rider with tunnel vision on a rocky, slippery DH trail to woah it up on my behalf.

This, pretty much always. I try to be cognizant of what I am riding and act appropriately, protecting my peace and ride first and foremost, but being considerate. For instance, I would not ride up Toboggan as it doesn't protect my ride, and it is inconsiderate of someone trying to enjoy themselves. Most of the time I feel I get it right, sometimes not so much.

I totally get that, and I've noticed that people have spray painted an "up" arrow on what i'm assuming is the "back up" section of the trail on the other side of the power lines.

I'm all for one-way sections in the DH only sections, because, as you mentioned, some of the park sections lend themselves naturally to DH flow.

I think communication, and labeling the trails is the best way, ensuring safety first and foremost, and also fun.

Sorry to hear that, and that's just ludicrous. it's unfortunate that people have to be like that. I make a point to yield to hikers, and also to very politely and gently let hikers know I'm there.

Also, your previous post is spot-on. Nothing wrong with yielding and letting people through, I do it all the time. I'm not going for any KOM, just trying to have fun and be out in the woods like all the rest of us.🤟🖖

I don't think an up arrow on a tree will do anything. I've never even noticed it.

The actual signs placed at the bottom of the two trails at Cromwell seem to keep riders from climbing up a downhill only trail.

There was a large, very spread out group ascending the top third of Low Voltage Thursday morning. Probably 11 guys at 9:30am. I was on the sixth switchback, when I heard, then saw them I jumped around the first three, but had to stop about 3 times after to let 2 or 3 guys go by. It was kinda disappointing, cuz I was just out for an hour and wasn't climbing up for a 2nd run. NBD
