Figured I would start a thread for our trip...

Alex (2Julianas), myself, and our S/Os are heading to British Columbia tomorrow for 7 days of riding. It's a long story, but all four of us ended up on the same trip - with the same outfitter and I couldn't be more excited!!!

I heard about Sacred Rides from Dana (dnap), and Alex actually did a trip last year with them. The fact that she is returning told me "damn, this must be a great trip".

We are doing the Rocky Mountain Singletrack - flying into Calgary - then driving down to Fernie, where we'll be for a few days exploring their trail system. Then hitting Nipika Mountain Resort, Radium Hot Springs, and Banff National Park. As a geologist, I'm excited just to see the scenery/experience the "rocks".

I am bringing my dinosaur lap top - so I hope to upload Garmin data and photos. We did get a GoPro - but 1) my computer can't handle the files and 2) I'm sure we won't have a lot of time to be futzing with the video while we are away. So Lance will have to play with that stuff once we are home/back in NJ.

Anyway 😀 Sounds like an awesome trip and I look forward to seeing some video and pictures! I would love to do something like this one day. Just gotta get my wife back on her bike :hmmm:

I should tell you the story of the coincidence with that other photographer who you posted her picture on your FB today.
 
I can't wait to see the garmin data for the trip! I'm dying to know what it was! I know you gals and guys are going to have a blast!! 😀
 
I too, am GREEN with envy & will be hanging on to this thread. This will be great... I'm so excited for you guys !!! :popcorn:
 
Friday 8/10

After a slight delay this morning, we arrived in Calgary (Alberta) Friday afternoon. We met up with another gal on our trip (Donna) and were picked up to head to Fernie. It's about a 3-hour drive to Fernie from Calgary, through the plains of Alberta and into the mountains. Amazing geology (insert dork comments here).

We stopped along the way at the Frank Slide area to stretch our legs - Canada's largest rock slide.

We arrived in Fernie, and met two other guys on our trip, Dan and Adam (for a total of 7 on our trip). We then met up with our guides (Johanna and Ryan) to discuss tomorrow's plans...all over locally-brewed beer from Fernie Brewing Company.

The town is awesome...mountains surrounding the area...some snow still up high. Ahhh.

Tomorrow morning Alex and I pick up our rental bikes, while Mark and Lance build their bikes. We are spending the morning in the skills park, then a ride after lunch...eeeee!
 
Saturday 8/11

The morning started with an overview of the day's activities. Mark and Lance built their bikes while Alex and I picked up our rentals. Both of us opted to rent...Santa Cruz Blurs...26ers. I was a little nervous about going back to smaller wheels after riding a 29er for so long.

Fernie has it's own skills park, so we spent a little part of the morning reviewing skills and practicing.

Following the skills portion, we headed to the trails - all from town/where we are staying. We asked who maintains the trails - which include MILES and MILES of singletrack. The town takes pride in their trail network, they receive Town and outside funding (which helps with tourism) and hundreds of volunteer hours. It really showed...the trails are amazing.

The had some climbing (about 1100')...and some descents. Lots of ups and downs. Both Alex and I adjusted to our little wheels - and were enjoying them! We came down Sidewinder...a nice flowy switchback.

After lunch, we hit Phat Bastard and Mushroom Head....LOTS of climbing, or what seemed like a lot (total 1400'). But the descents were a blast. I was thankful to be on a FS bike. There aren't a lot of rocks (at least yesterday) but a fair amount of roots. A few bridges, one which was about 5' over a river, with a 90 degree turn. I had no problems walking that...

Returned home and followed up with yoga...and bevies.
