Back for its 7th edition is the Cranks Around the Campfire Mt Biking Festival Weekend! Northwest New Jersey is the place to be for a long weekend of mountain biking action! Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced rides will be offered twice a day and will explore the diverse terrain of Allamuchy, Stephens, and Deer Park. There will be activities all weekend for the whole family with children's activities scheduled to enable parents to join the group rides!
Mt Allamuchy Scout Reservation is the ideal spot for the festival. Just minutes from Rt. 80, the camp is easy to get to and at the same time located on a 900 acre parcel of forest that has been preserved for decades under the ownership of the BSA. The camp is easily navigated by forest road and all campsites can be accessed by car. The campsites are group style so you can pitch your tent wherever you like. You are free to choose seculusion or form a tent city with all your riding buddies.
The camp is located in the center of Allamuchy North, Stephens, and Deer Park Mountain biking trail networks. Riders can access Allamuchy North directly from camp. Stephens is across the street from us and Deer Park just a couple minutes down the road by bike. Cranks is a great opportunity to learn new trails in these 3 parks. In addition to all the singletrack in the 3 parks, our camp contains miles of singletrack and jeep roads to explore. There are trails for every age and skill level. Join us for night rides each night on the reservation. We will have some lights to borrow provided by sponsor Princeton Tec.

Many off-the-bike events are planned for the whole family. Head to the dining hall Friday night for a double feature mtb movie night. On Saturday night grab your favorite beverage and join your fellow campers for a Beach Party BBQ at the waterfront. There will be free Hotdogs and Hamburgers. After the party, chill out at the bonfire. Children can experience the outdoors with camp staff participating in group rides, nature hikes, fishing, geo-caching, handicrafts, waterfront activities, and much more. The waterfront will be open for swimming at select times.
The festival benefits youth mountain biking programs at the Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation. Last summer the BSA added mt biking as part of the cycling merit badge. We are proud to offer that merit badge for the first time this summer. Each summer, Camp Somers introduces at least a hundred kids to the sport of mountain biking. Each youth by the end of the week is cruising singletrack in Allamuchy and Stephens State Parks. Help us expand our program to offer this opportunity to both Scouts and the general public on weekends throughout year.

Admission to the festival is free for youths under 18 years old. Please no pets on reservation property. If you'd like to bring a small RV please contact us to make arrangements. We have water and electric hookups.

Save money and register online!

Online registration ends August 25h. Day of registration available. All participants must sign in upon arrival and sign waiver and pick up parking permit.

Under 18 always free with registered paying adult!

Include a kids race that weekend.

Get a Flyer made of all upcoming kids races so they can be distributed in the school districts which includes CAC. Maybe make it a series final at the event.

My family will be available to help that weekend...

Reach out to DirtRag for real, they may make an appearance and get it out there...

Will work on these suggestions! I like the season finale especially. Just need enough staff. Dates for first 2 NJ Rocks Races will be out soon. Tentatively May 31 and June 14. If any one reading this has a contact for DirtRag please give me a shout!

Also if you have a flyer I will be happy to hand it to them at dirt fest in May (might be too late for the print mag though...)

Do you have any details on the "Professionally Supervised" child care? CPR certified or whatever ...

Any info would make it easier to sell to the wife - kids will be 5 and 9.

Thanks!

That would be great! I'll have the event flyer done soon and will provide you with as many copies as you want! Thanks!

JooLee, the kids will be supervised by our senior camp staff. They are professionally trained in areas of first aid, youth protection, and weather hazards. The programs will be overseen that weekend by multiple volunteers that are career teachers including the camp's own program director James. Our camp serves over 1200 youths in the 6 week camp season. Here is some more info on the camp: http://www.camps.ppbsa.org/camps/somers/index.htm

looking for any kids races this summer. We had a lot of fun at the race last year. Any updates on whether any kid's races are scheduled for BSA this summer?

Yes, we are having a race May 31st! Then hopefully a second race on Cranks Weekend! Info and registration info here: https://www.bikereg.com/nj-rocks-junior-xc-race-1

We would love to team up with the Bulldogs, Marty's, etc. for an even larger series. I'm sure the Hilltop Grasshopper race would be in too!

We want to do this and I was a bit confused with registering. It will be our family of 4 (2 boys ages 6 and 8) for weekend camping. Do I pay $50 in one name or register both husband and I at $100?

Hi Kristina,
The fee for your family would be $100. That would be $50 each for yourself and your husband. Kids always free! Let me know if you have any other questions. PM me here or email at info@rideallamuchy.com
Thanks for your interest!

Is this just a kids thing?

It's for everyone. The best thing about this event is you can bring your kids and still attend all the group rides. There will be youth activities planned with professionally trained staff during the group rides so both parents can participate if they chose. I personally love it because for 2.5 days all there is to think about is mountain biking and the great outdoors. You can ride up 7 times with a group throughout the weekend!
