6 Mile Run Conditions

Conditions were surprisingly dry and hero dirt on Saturday. You can see the years of work implementing good drainage as there were pools of water laying alongside the trail in nicks and culvert basins rather than on trail. Clay was fast and tacky and ready to rip! Couple spots with running water across trail as the higher elevations drain off the prior night's rain and dampness in the deep trough trails of blue in the open field sector which should dry up in another day.
I know one is the pipeline. I'm working on a better long term fix for that.

What are the other spots you saw running water?

Not sure what pipeline is but the only 2 spots i would say had any substantial water worth noting were:

1. Where the (red/orange?) trail crosses powerline on the 27 side. The powerline cut is a hillside and it was actively draining off all the prior rainfall across the trail. Seemed to concentrate in one spot, maybe a culvert could move it under the trail. but this might only be an issue after rainfall, not necessarily a case of moisture retention.
2. The open area of blue right from the canal lot holds quite a bit of standing water still--mostly sections closest to the lot rather than closer to the woods. The trail is so troughed there's plenty of low spots even though there's nicks and elevated sections.

The rest of the park was absolutely fine.

Thanks @JonF. The powerline on red is the first open section from the 27 lot, the pipeline is the second.

Right now, we're blocked from doing any serious work on the blue field section near the Canal lot. We might be able to add some diversions to reduce the impact.

Great to hear the rest was good😁

Pretty early in the year to be perfect, how cool? Despite the drought, we've caught up a lot with rain totals in the last month. @jdog and the alphabet crew have transformed this park
You can see the benefit of work being done by a few alphabet volunteers in keeping the water off the trails. There was very little mud.

Temps were good yesterday. Comfortable in a long sleeve base layer and shorts, but we did start later in the day when it had warmed up a bit.

Rode from Jaques to 27 and back ...conditions are near perfect. ....One thing to point out however , is the blockade at the entrance to red October on the Jaques side is down ...looks like it's from the wind we have had ....but I am sure there will be a few people that might take advantage of this ....so just a heads up

There is an uptick in Surron and other high powered, electric motorbike use at 6mr. I spoke at length to the state park police and they do not understand the difference between Pedal assist class 1 ebikes and E-motorcycles which have no pedals and can reach top speeds well over 50mph. I spent a good amount of time trying to educate the local officer to the dangers of e-motos on public trails.

What we can do when we see these out there is take photos of the licence plate of any car loading or unloading these E-motorcycles.

This will get worse before it gets better.
