This morning I was riding back down to my car which was parked on the Canal side of the trail....

I came ot the split in the trail and decided what the hell... I'll ride the RED Trail after all it's in my opinion an old school trail much more smooth !! I came to the water crossing and hesitated ... I heard voices, so I stopped ... Hikers !! I said to myself what a douche bag I am !!

It's a Hikers trail !! so I turned around and rode the Blue trail to the Yellow trail and then rode some more...... Great Ride and I hope those Hikers had a great hike !!

I hope more of you let your principles kick in and realize the Red Trail is a Hiking Trail !!

If you turned around at the ravine.. In a greenish Yellow jersey??

Well those hikers were MT BIKERS!!

We were out with the Park's Naturalist and Historian. We have made very strong inroads with these folks.

The new reality is that we are well on our way to making the red trail a multi use trail. By the spring there will be no trail in six mile that mt bikers are not welcome on.

I can't stress how big a deal this is. Please everyone do the right thing here.

These guys HATE to see mt bikers w/o helmets on. Do your part.

I have heard this right from the top of the food chain.

Here is what we can all do:

-STOP anyone w/o a helmet and let them know that riding here is not a right. It just isn't. There are people on the front lines working to make this park legit. If someone is hurt or killed mt biking you had better believe that the microscope we are under will become more intense.

-Pick up trash. If you see trash carry it out. And do not litter.

-Ask before you cut. PLEASE keep the renegade cutting out of this park. I know that the trails seem crazy and a tangled mess but trust me that nothing was done by accident or mistake.

-Come to the posted trail days. Volunteer and take some ownership in the trails that we all love.

-Be Friendly. Take 2 seconds and ask a trail user if they are OK, lost, hurt etc.. Leave the NYC attitude in the car. Even if we are seconds from suburbia we can pretend that this oasis is just that.

-Share. This is a great place to take a newbie out and share our sport. Better yet share with the park system (D&R) how much you are enjoying the trails and how much they mean to you.

See you out there.

Yup more green.... Yellow Helmet !! Good to hear the stuff your doing and the kind of stuff you put up here needs to be said to the masses on here !! Cause we all see our fair share of people without Helmets.... Wow and that's great if you get the RED Trail to be a multi-purpose trail. I've only been on it 2 times... (The Principle thing) and I remember it being very fun to ride.... But I will wait until the offically make it multi-purpose....
