6/5 Soft Rock, Hard Times

Hey all! Finally heard about this forum and wanted to pop in to post about an informal xc race I'm putting together on June 5 starting from the Glen Rock main station at 9a. The route was a bit of a pandemic project after I realized there was a way to connect a few mtb trail systems before hitting Harriman and crossing the Hudson onto the OCA. It's a hefty mixed terrain haul but I'm hoping to start holding more of these races to eventually build up a community of bikepacking racers in the northern NJ/NYC area. I expect that there could be anywhere from 2 to 20 people toeing the starting line. I'll just be sending people off that morning and then zipping around taking photos.

No entry fees, no support, no podium, and no celebratory finish other than your own. All that's provided is a gpx route. Wish I knew about this forum earlier so I could've picked your brains but there's always next year!

Thanks, @Mare45! It took me 5-6 scouting rides to figure out what flow worked best and I managed to wrangle a few friends to beta test and photograph the later versions. Kinda hard not to take great photos in the backdrop of those trail systems!

@gmb3 I've certainly had some rough days on it. The roughest time was some Sept ride when I must've blown through 9L of water by the end of the singletrack section ☠️

Kinda interesting using gpsrace.cc for record-keeping and ITT results. I have the race open for gpx uploads until the end of June if anyone wants to take a stab at it outside of the group depart on 6/5 (or want to race it a second time).

The first entry was clocked in around 10:06 on the race route, not counting the 50mi portion of the ride to and from the start/end point (on 3hrs of sleep and additional weight carried as training for another race nonetheless!) Will definitely be bringing out some wildcats

if you really want to up the commitment you could send them from ramapo to ringwood on yellow instead of taking the road from TOS to ryerson. . . .

Whewf. That Hoeferlin/Cannonball sections is a doozy! I thought I'd play nice by giving racers a nice road descent into the Erskine shopping area for anyone needing a re-up on food/water. Already scheming an XL version for the next time so who knows!

I probably wouldn’t able to do it on that day anyway, but looks a terribly ambitious day of hurting. I have monstercross setup that would actually work well that. I haven’t done a full day in the saddle in so long, I would be pretty miserable.
