so what the hell am I supposed to buy??!!!
Pay attention to sidecut of a ski. This relates to the size of the ski at the tip, waist and tail. For example a ski which has a sidecut of 64mm tip - 52mm middle – 60mm tail, is a good general size for beginners looking to get out and venture into parks, trails and golf courses. These numbers vary depending upon the manufacturer of the ski and model. Going a couple mm in either direction won't dramatically effect perfomance.
The length of the ski will correspond to your weight, the manufacturer will recommend a length.
-NNN bindings are the safe standard. You can go with a NNN touring binding or NNN back country binding. The BC binding will be a little beefier and wider.
If you choose NNN Touring binding you must choose a NNN Touring boot. If you choose a NNN BC Binding you must choose a NNN BC boot. These binding systems are specific to boot systems. Make sure they are compatibale before you buy.
- NNN Boots are the standard. Spend more money on boots, your feet will love you for it. Try them on and make sure they fit snug. A loose sloppy boot will give you blisters.
- Ski Poles, rule of thumb... they should fit under your armpit.
Good luck, we're all counting on you.
