My kids outgrew the side by side trailer awhile ago. Fun times though, had by all. Bonus, pulling it with my DH bike good for me too.

Got it! Time for proper 2-wheelers? What to get?

Thanks,

Got up early Saturday morning and drive out to Jim Thorpe to catch the bike train up Lehigh valley gorge. It was partly sunny and warm with no rain or thunderstorms predicted until dinner time.

The wife, 9 yo daughter on her little ride and my 4 yo son in the double wide burley. Plenty of water and food? Check. Flat smooth trail? Check. Everything in good mechanical condition? Check.
About 4 miles in daughter augers in for no good reason at 10 mph and tears up her knee and elbow pretty good. Much wailing ensued but she got cleaned up and wanted to keep on going.

Did I mention it was a 25 mile ride?

Two hours in and we are halfway and it is looking like rain. Then it drizzles - which was pleasant and cooled us all off. Then it rained then it torrentially rained then the lightning and thunder started. Little girl held up like a trooper with her shouting ICE CREAM every few minutes in anticipation of promised end reward. The yell would also bump up her speed like a little turbo boost.

The trail stopped draining and got muddy and more difficult to ride. Little girl now miserable. Son dry and singing in his trailer. At 22 miles we abandon her bike, stash her in the trailer and I sprint the three miles back with a 100 pound anchor dragging behind me. We finish soaked and covered with grit but still manage to have a nice meal in town before they all crash out driving back.

Great recap & story! I think it's so important for kids & especially girls to know the adventure begins when conditions get a little uncomfortable (or wet, as the case may be).
