100mm Fork on Steel HT?

I've got an older Steel HT that was built up with a std 80mm 1 1/8" fork.
It's always been a quick steerer.
Since I've been riding my 150mm Pivot, I've gotten used to the slacker, slower handling characteristics of a longer fork, and the HT feels positively twitchy.
Can I put a longer, say, 100mm fork on the HT?
Do you think the frame will handle it?
I assume it'll just slow down the handling a bit and make it stabler on the descents.
Am I missing any other changes to the handling this might make?
Thanks all,
Lenny

I think you pretty much covered it. The bike will be just fine at 100, it will just slacken things a bit. In the end you might be more happy since you will have a little more travel.

I have done it before and it seemed to handle fine. It will also raise your handlebar 1 inch, which you may or may not like, but should be an easy fix by swapping some spacers or flipping the stem.

Probably more than you want to spend, but good price on a Fox Float w/remote lockout on Chainlove.com right now ... $499 ... 7 minutes to go ...
