i live in the basking ridge area and would be more than happy to take you out at chimney rock on the weekend if you are interested. i have not been on my bike in a month and i am just happy to get out on the bike and enjoy it, slow pace doesn't matter.

Heading to Chimney Rock this afternoon. I know conditions were great yesterday, but would appreciate any update on conditions after that storm last night.

lewis morris conditions i was there at 2:30 and there was one tacky section on yellow, but my bike actually came out of the ride a whole lot cleaner than it was when i started the ride.

I have done a bunch of adventure races over the past few years - mostly sprints (6-8 hrs) and a 12 hour. They are a lot of fun and most of the people are friendly and helpful - in the last one the winners finished hours ahead of us and were still there cheering for us as we crossed the finish...

I don't think I will be able to make it due to foot surgery that day, unless the post-op drugs are really good.

I took the class last winter - knowing nothing about my bike - it was great to eliminate some of the mystery while the more advanced folks were learning and working on their bikes. John and Frank do a great job of making it relevant and fun for everyone there. I am signed up to take it again...

I am considering this race and the Darkness 909 the night before in NY. Both are up in the air for me depending on the weather, how I fair if I do the 909 and how much work I have to do over the weekend. I have heard that the Mt Man is a lot of fun though and the 909 was a blast last year too.

I am going to try to do both races.

There are also two duathlon races 11/4. One is Dirty Events in Schiff in NY and the other is King of the Hill at Round Valley.

The Darkness at 909 is Oct 27 (sat). It was a fun race last year!

Thanks for the suggestions. Perhaps I will try the Trance X1 for the first few days and then switch to a Turner to try a new bike. I will of course ride a unicycle in between.

I am headed to Moab to bike in a month and don't want to ship my bike. I plan to rent a bike from one of the local shops. Can anyone make recommendations on bikes that would be good to rent to ride in Moab since all of the shops seem to have different choices and I get confused easily.

Good to be talking with everyone, although I am not so sure I see anything wrong with lurking...i wasn't hurting anyone, nothing wrong with voyeurism.
