El Mariachi - Size Large (19")

The failings with this relationship are with me, not the bike. Bought this El Mar as a closeout 2012 model. Wheels sucked so I upgraded to White Industries MI with Stan's Arch rims. Also the gearing was awful so I moved from the stock FSA cranks to X9s. Also the stock Avid brakes were awful so I...

    PROJECT: 2001 Santa Cruz Superlight

I'm moving and I'll likely never get to put this bike back together. It's a carolina blue 2001 Santa Cruz Superlight frame with a set of Hope wheels with Mavic 517 rims (rim brake only). It comes with an XT rear dr and an xt front dr, Easton stem, has a raceface handlebar with some XT (I think)...

    Jenny Jump?

Going to be camping with the family at Jenny Jump SP in November. I read there are 3 miles of trail there. Is that accurate or are there any extra trails nearby that I can add in? With the kids and all I won't have time to ride over to Allamuchy or anything. Am I better off just bringing my road...

    converting to 1x9

I converted an old Jetta Trek by just removing the front derailleur, granny and big ring. Got lucky with the chain alignment and didn't need any guides. I actually ran this setup SS first, then put the back gears back on. Just start pulling stuff off and cross your fingers :-)

    Q for el mariachi riders

I've had a 2012 El Mar for a couple months now. I got a used El Mar 3 from ebay and I've swapped out a few of the parts, probably more than I needed to. I'm waiting on a new wheelset right now and I'm planning out a 1x10 conversion. I'm being kind of compulsive trying to get the weight down...

What have you done to your bike today?

I swapped forks back to rigid (again) and went to a low rise headset cap on my cane creek zs headset. Spent a silly amount of time on the trail and in my garage trying to get the headset adjusted. It's goes from clunky to overtight over and over. I got it good enough for now but I may be going...

Looking for a Chimney rock tour guide

What Time? I *may* be in the Neuman's lot around 7:30 and could show you a little bit. I haven't been to there in about 3 years but used to ride there every week. If you see a guy with a green El Mariachi and a white minivan, that's me. Planned on riding solo but company is cool. Moderate pace...

    Talk some sense into me

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. I tried riding the fork locked out, and it helps, but it's still got a little squish in there. Plus it's about 2lbs heavier than the steel fork would be so not a completely fair test. Honestly, I think I gotta try it. And with respect to the Niner...

    Talk some sense into me

I have a recently acquired '12 El Maraichi with a Rockshox Recon fork. I'm thinking of picking up the matching (sexy) Salsa fork and going rigid. I've been dabbling with a rigid steel 1x10 with poor early-90s geometry for some time, so I kinda know what I'm getting into, but I want to start...

    Cycling vs Running

That describes my experience pretty well. I ran track and xc in high school and by my senior year my knees were constantly hurting. I got orthotics and went through PT but was never comfortable running after that and always had discomfort. I played basketball, tennis, etc, then started mountain...

    As I Grow Older....

I've had a very similar transition. At this point I'm lucky to get any time on the bike at all. Last year I rode mostly roads, only got out on the mtb a handful of times. Out of curiosity, where are those new trails in High Bridge?

Columbia Trail - Fall Evening Rides

The D&R canal is nice option, too. I was thinking of a regular ride on the Columbia Trail (selfishly) because it's local and because it's better to have some company riding at night. Plus it's nice to meet new people :) Once we're into September I'll post some ideas for days and times. Seems...

Anyone have a Gunnar or Soma road bike?

Soma Smoothie I have a 2006 Soma Smoothie (it says "ES" but it's actually the race geometry). I've only ever had steel road bikes so I don't have much of a reference, but I love the Soma. The ride is smooth, the frame is relatively light for it's price, the paint and all the welds on mine look...
