    Coal Cracker Classic??

Nice job persevering. In looking at your Garmin, they went further west than I've ever ridden, that must be some of the new trails. Regardless, you had the terrible climb up to the top and the boulder-laden jeep trail sections down. I've ridden some of these downhills for years and they still...

    Coal Cracker Classic??

Ugh, that's a shame. I rode 12 miles there that hit some of the endurance course and knew it wasn't for me. I would love to hear from those who did the XC loop. That is a much more fun. I know 10 years ago when the XC loop use to go to the top of the mountain where the endurance course went...

    Coal Cracker Classic??

Tommy, I assume you did the endurance race. The climbs are brutal. There are downhills that are brutal rocks that are almost impossible to negotiate. I didn't realize they would be part of the loop but based on your description they certainly were. 20 miles out there can be brutal. The XC...

    Coal Cracker Classic??

Some info on the course I started mountain biking back in '97 when I lived near the Tamaqua trails. Even after moving to NJ, I still get back to ride a couple times a year when visiting my in-laws. I'm not racing this weekend but rode the trails last weekend (yes, I know they are on private...

    Mooch Madness Recap

Great job by the MTBNJ.com crew You guys put on a great race today, especially given the conditions. I didn't decide to do the race until Wednesday and haven't done any other races this year. I was in the loaded singlespeed class and came in 8th out of 12. Versus the Sport group I would have...

    North Map

Ice Cream is a downhill that is located one block down and one block to the right of the "private property" on the map. In that block, it is in the white area on the right where there is a trail going into the white trail and has the little hour glass shape trail. confused? I do have to...

    2011 Singlespeed-a-Pooloza Thread

So how were the conditions? As bad as last year? I got up this morning to go and found water leaking in my kitchen and the local stream overflowing. I decided to bail on driving the 100 miles up there. I'm assuming it was a mess, a fun mess, but a mess. Please don't tell me conditions were...

Great to see the forecast changing. How quick does the course dry out? Sunday is looking like it will be sunny after some rain on Saturday. If I want to get my out of shape @ss around the course for 27 miles, I need it to be hard packed and downhill the whole way.

1 lap or 2? I can't tell mileage from the map - it is 1 lap this year or 2?

    diablo ??

this was just posted on Facebook Diablo Freeride Park Trail Update: despite all the recent wetness, Lower Dominion, Alpine, IndyCross and Greenhorn will all be open at 9am this Saturday. Upper Dominion, Pipeline and Covenant are expected to be open by early afternoon. It's shaping up to be an...

    diablo ??

Saw a post on Facebook by Diablo that 95% of the trails are open for tomorrow thanks to the engineering that went into the trails.

    Vermont 50

I would recommend a small (less than $20) headlight that you won't worry about losing. With the earlier start this year it will be sketchy on the road to the trail. Three years ago, it was extremely cold and dark. The last two years have been more mild due to rain and slightly lighter. I've...

    Stephens "beat my time" TT

Matty, You need to deduct 2 seconds off your time when we held you up on our tandems! You picked a warm day to set a time trial. Funny that we saw the mark on the ground for the start and were wondering what happened. It looked like someone went skidding into the weeds. Barry

    Ergon Grips

Tried ESI Chunkies and Ergon For shorter duration rides the Ergon grips are fantastic. They really feel nice. I ran them on all my bikes up until two weeks ago. I found that on really long rides (3+ hours), the lack of cushion led me to the ESI Chunkies. So far, so good.
