    Chimney Rock Conditions

Awesome conditions this afternoon. Fluffy snow with lots of traction! I rode my Fatboy which just got a Terrene Johnny 5 installed on the front (still running a Surly Bud and Lou on the back) but I ran into someone on a skinny 26er and they were doing okay, just not as fast. Looking forward to...

Ride red, white, black and orange this afternoon. I was dialing in the AXS upgrade I installed on my sister’s bike. Conditions were pretty good.

How are the new trails at Cromwell? Still tore up by heavy equipment?

FYI, it's hunting season, so the park is closed for the next five or six Wednesdays.

    Chimney Rock Conditions

I went for a run on blue late this afternoon. As anticipated, it was a soggy shithole par excellence. It almost claimed my sneakers. Whoever rode it earlier left deep ruts with their skinny tires. Not cool and I can't imagine it was very much fun.

    Chimney Rock Conditions

I’ve been sticking to trail running the last couple of days - Goretex trail shoes FTW - but the conditions were surprisingly not as awful as I expected. Still a lot of leaf cover on the trail and not all the ice had melted yet by yesterday morning. Today will be a swamp though for sure.

    Chimney Rock Conditions

Got an afternoon ride in today with music thanks to cnjrider and thanks rjr44 for clearing the trails! Conditions on red and blue were still good but I expect by the same time tomorrow it will be messy on account of the mild weather coming. Get your turns in early tomorrow if you can.

Hey, that’s awesome! Thank you! The earbuds were in my ears so I’m just missing the case. If you want to stash them somewhere near the lot and PM me that would work. I also live a mile from the trail head, I’ll PM you my address! Thanks again!

    Chimney Rock Conditions

Did red and blue today. Very rideable indeed. Surprised actually how well my 3.7" Minions handle the ice. Tried to snap that tree on top of the newly routed trail but it bested me. Rooting for you with the axe. Lost my Skull Candy earbuds case somewhere along the way, I'll have to ride the...

    Chimney Rock Conditions

Did blue, red, white, black and orange this morning. Conditions were generally excellent, only I would not recommend orange unless you're riding studs or enjoy hiking across impassable ice fields.

    Chimney Rock Conditions

Yesterday and today were great days at CR. Interestingly, the Old Tullo connector, which I had written off as it has become a stream, seems to have recovered as a usable trail. It’s overgrown but made of solid dirt again. It wasn’t the case _before_ all the Ian rain - it was a swamp, even in...

Thanks to whoever did this. Ironically I’ve now grown to like going down to the middle to access the fire road.

    What Bike at CR?

I rotate three bikes at CR: Framed Montana, full suspension carbon fat bike with 3.7” tires. This is the best all-arounder, comfortable, roll anything, traction in all conditions. Spot Honey Badger, single speed belt drive hardtail with a Fox Factory 32 front fork. This is hands down my...

Wanted: Small mountain bike for my son

My leggy 11 year old is outgrowing the 24” hardtail I bought for him just last year. I think he’s large enough now to ride a 26” adult small. My budget is around $800, preference is for a full suspension with reasonably modern geometry. He’s new to the sport but progressing fast, and our home...

    Chimney Rock Conditions

That tree over the trail feature on blue has been there for a while. It messed me up the first time I popped off the top, caught my eye unexpectedly and I ended up flying off the trail.

Yes. The big one is a 20” at least. I could do it but was warned against vigilante sawing 😂
