    Cutting Airshaft

Ok, project is on hold now. Ordered a 170mm airshaft to rip apart. School has the tools, going back in two weeks from now so it’ll get done then!

    Cutting Airshaft

Definitely see what you mean, wouldn’t that just raise the riding eight without effecting travel? The length of the goldish shaft seems to be what the piston is sliding on and dictates travel. Maybe I’m just confused though

    Cutting Airshaft

Spacers don’t apply to the new stuff so cutting is the way. Chambers shouldn’t get messed up, they seem to be the same

    Cutting Airshaft

UPDATE: Took it apart, heat definitely worked! Appreciate all the feedback as well. So after being able to take a look at it, there will have to be three things done to the air shaft after it is taken apart. 1. I will have to first take off 5mm from the end of the shaft 2. I then will have to...

    Cutting Airshaft

I always have ran my suspension softer, so I usually put 4 tokens up front. I’ll up it to 5 if I increase the sag. Tomorrow will be my attempt to take apart the 150mm airshaft. If I can get it apart I’ll order a 170mm to go ahead with the project

    Cutting Airshaft

Actually one of the reasons I wanted to try this out is because my sag is currently 25%, and adding 5mm will allow me to sag of out to get around 29% sag. Not doing it because I “need” more travel.

    Cutting Airshaft

Unfortunately the school doesn’t have quite enough equipment to get that done, definitely not discouraged though and I’ll see what I can get done. My current dilemma is getting the bottom unscrewed. It feels pretty much welded on, this should be fun

    Cutting Airshaft

I have a 150 air shaft for it in my basement, gonna attempt taking it apart tomorrow to see how long the threads are. If they are to short and need to be tapped I won’t go ahead with this and just run 170. I’ll update this thread with any progress

Definitely going to be negligible, it tickles my brain a bit and allows me to learn more so why not

    Cutting Airshaft

Don’t know, worth trying it out since I can get a air shaft for $25 through the shop. Also it’s pretty dope to say that I have 165 instead of 160, and it gives me a project to think about

    Cutting Airshaft

Wow, didn’t even think about that. My schools shop has a vast range of taps but it didn’t even cross my mind that it might be custom. I’ll take it apart later and take a look at how far the threads are cut

    Cutting Airshaft

Ok, so this is kinda specific. I have a new 2021 fox 36 factory at 160mm of travel. I want more travel but don’t want 170, I want 165. I’m super obsessive about getting the numbers right so it’s something I gotta try out. I have seen one or two others online do this, but would it be possible to...

    Jumping Help?

Hard to explain it to someone when they are not with them. I’m still learning myself and I feel the best way is to have an experienced rider tell you what you are doing wrong instead of “how to do it”. Take a video of yourself and put it up here for everyone to criticize it. Might just help you

What have you done to your bike today?

Just swapped to a 2021 36, put a longer air shaft in right out of the box. Gonna try it out tomorrow... Also messed up the chainstay somehow and the carbon is fraying so Trek pulled through and sent me a new one. I’ll probably install it next week

Good news, just remembered I have the 11sp Free hub body So I’ll just grab a kit from the shop today

    Gonna try SS

That’s actually pretty sick, definitely the job I would want after I get out of school. When I can finally get into the schools shop I’ll see what equipment we have there and see if this is feasible
