    Post your Cat =^..^=

Oldie but a goldie: Our outdoor cat who died 3 years ago at the ripe old age of 18, came up in the camera roll. She has a little shrine in the corner of the garage now, where she spent her last few months.

What have you done to your bike today?

Nope, free floating legs are a PITA to install. You can use a short length of something ~14mm diameter inserted through the other side to help line stuff up while you install the axle the other way (it will push it out as you finish installing it).

    Chain Wax Discussion thread

Hmm. Weird. Almost like it's not really necessary to remove the factory lube in the first place. 🤔

    Allaire Conditions

Mid-week report: Still multiple slick spots in the trails. If frozen, no issues. Some of the spots are not frozen when hit by sun, though.

I want to finish my projects before I worry about hers!! 🤣

    Antique sewing machine

It seems like it's a weird machine, tbh. It uses a lot of the same parts as the "common" singer machines, but the plates that cover the shuttle are different. Ours was actually complete (with original belt) when we got it, but the leaf was falling apart, and the covers for the shuttle were...

You're in branchburg, or I'd have been there yesterday. It's the same vintage as a "Wannamaker" that we have.

    Metal whisperer help

I would think a helicoil sounds like the way to go. Assuming it can support the over-size bit. You can use a regular twist drill to bore most of the hole, and a forstner (very carefully free-hand) to flatten the bottom if necessary.

Things that make you frown :(

Straight shea or cocoa butter works better than O'Keefe's. The above advice about super glue/bulking with paper is excellent. Pad with two bandaids, one laid over the fingertip, one wrapped around holding the tails on. -signed by a musician who can't stop playing because his fingertips are...

Fixing pianos, bikes, and myself **New, now with accordions and concertinas!**

Have I got something for you 🙂 A genuine Richard Sher Australian-made lathe. Has [actually] adjustable gibs, unlike the modern ones. Also has magneto bearings in the headstock 😁

Homeowners, not so much. People who use them for work (miniature shops, trophy places, machine restoration), they're pretty invaluable. Honestly, this is the right size for me. We owned a 40x10(?) Atlas for many years, and it was a perfectly serviceable machine once setup...but it was...

Fixing pianos, bikes, and myself **New, now with accordions and concertinas!**

Parting...is such sweet sorrow. I still have to turn down a large bushing, press it in, then face the whole shebang. The neck on the arbor bushing needs to be turned down a bit, too, to fit into the shroud properly. I'll have to break out the 4-jaw for that, tho...this part could be kindly...

Better option is to shim the hub, if it bothers you. Can have end caps turned if you really don't want to futz with spacers.

What have you done to your bike today?

The pedal spindle gets a fracture at one of the corners of the broach (over-tightening, fatigue), and then your hex key just wedges it tighter when you try to remove it. Possible to salvage the pedal/crank, but the spindle has to be sacrificed.
