    Blauvelt Conditions

Yes. The collapsed stick bridges should be removed now regardless of when they get replaced.

Yes. I can’t just toss them in the trash. It seems so wasteful. There are quite a few rocks on that trail with clam shells under them.

Thank you, I revisited that area today. It looks like we got it right this time. Extending the hardened area and putting drains above it should keep it from filling up once again. And I believe you were referring to this fix as being ‘in the works’. It’s coming out real good too. Need...

I think whip back would be a function of the elasticity of your cables/slings and not the mechanism that is doing the pulling. It could also be caused by your anchor (tree) acting like a catapult arm if you aren’t careful.

A grip hoist is a different beast. It’s nice being able to slack off the cable with complete control.

    Sterling Forest Trail Conditions

A Tractel T-516 with 60’ wire rope runs about $1800. Then you need slings and/or chains, a snatch block and shackles. It will add up fast, especially if you get a big snatch block to bend the cable over 90 degrees. Without trying very hard you can quickly spend another $1000. And a lot more...

We used a 2 ton capacity grip hoist. It’s like a winch but the cable runs thru it. There’s no spool wrapping it up. The bigger rocks are probably 1500 pounds. We also had some plain old ‘fun with gravity’.

    New Trail Approved, Augusta Mine

McKeags is on the master plan for the park as multi-use bike/hike. It will be officially opened to biking when it’s renovation is complete and Augusta Mine is built. The much larger Laurel Meadows parking area will also take some of the parking pressure away from the Caretaker and Southgate...

So after the rattler yesterday I was happy to see this black rat snake today. A bit off the trail, going down the tree, it’s head was on the ground. Much nicer than walking into one on the edge of the trail with its head at eye level a few feet away from you.

Found a lost Tile on Hutchinson

It’s a Bluetooth enabled ‘find whatever it’s attachéd to thing’. with an app on your phone. I had no idea as to what it was when I found it either.

In Sterling Forest. First rattlesnake that I’ve seen this year. Big and fat. The darkest that I’ve ever seen. He meandered through where I was working. Needless to say work stopped for a bit. Sorry that I didn’t get a better closeup 😊
