    let stalk about xert

    As with all of these softwares like Xert, Golden Cheetah, WKO5, etc. You need to feed good data to get good output. Xert and WKO5 had my ftp 40 watts too low all winter until I did an all out Bear Mountain climb 2 weeks ago. Xert put me 3 watts shy of where I pegged my FTP to be by feel...

    After 12 years, I've dug out my old guitars from the basement. Can anyone recommend a good guitar setup guy? Willing to travel a bit for someone excellent.

    Just tried out RGT cycling yesterday, they have this Magic Road feature which creates a route for you based on a gpx file. I was really impressed with it actually as I tried out part of the Whiteface 100k route. The turns and the gradient felt pretty spot on. I'm gonna play with it some more but...

    Best Dropper lever?

    Another vote for PNW. Love the Loam lever, I find it easy to push regardless of hand position. Doesn't require proper leverage which could be hard to come by going over chunky terrain.

    Wonderful insight, never thought about what's best on paper vs what's best for the athlete and what will encourage compliance. Thank you.

    Very good points Norm! The thing with drift is that so many variables affect it, hydration status, temperature, sleep, etc. A very useful metric to use in combination with everything else we're looking at. Now after successfully completing 3x20 without drift, why would you up the FTP as opposed...

    @Patrick You're actually on the right track with the chart! It's very similar to the Power Duration Model posted below. With this chart we can see the point where fatigue occurs much faster if you go above it, and much slower if you're under it. Physiologically this is a good estimation of...

    https://www.trainingpeaks.com/blog/the-physiology-of-ftp-and-new-testing-protocols/ This will give you an insight into the physiology of FTP and where I am basing my comments from. Also, from Coggans "Racing and Training with a Power Meter" he states, and I paraphrase as I don't have the book...

    My understanding of overestimating efforts on hard climbs or time trials for that matter is that you're probably riding over threshold that entire time. Events or hard climbs provide the motivation one needs to go all out and give that extra something, but it doesn't mean they were riding at...

    1. I recommend turning off ERG mode for an FTP test. The trainer will adjust resistance according to cadence, so it will feel "harder" at low cadence. FTP tests should be governed by feel anyways rather than a target number. We all want our FTPs to be higher, but realistically our bodies don't...

    The Hidden Life of Trees

    Loved this book Zip! I definitely second this recommendation, might be a time for a reread. I read it a few years ago and it also changed the way I look at the forest.

    Pampa I've been using Zwift. It has the ability to pull your workouts from Trainingpeaks. If you want something without a monthly subscription, you can try PerfPro for a one-time fee.

    Road tubeless worth it?

    Also running Conti GP5000TL on the road, fantastic. It's nice hearing a puncture seal up 20 miles away from home and you still have enough pressure to make it home.
