Intel on Harrisonburg VA?

Never gonna let you down.
I have a last minute business trip in VA next week, going to be in Harrisonburg for the weekend. I’m completely clueless on riding in the area, but have heard good things. Would appreciate any info on the best trails since my plan is to get out early and get in 2-3 hour rides since I’ll want to get back and hike with my fam. I’ll check out mtbproject and Trailforks but interested to hear some firsthand experience. Thanks

i was just there about a month ago for 3 days. drove down got there about 11am, did the reddish knob loop. pedaled up briery branch road to the overlook from the wolf ridge parking lot, blasted down timber ridge to wolf ridge trails, it was awesome 10miles up 9 miles down. second day day hit massanutten bike park, its small and there arent alot of trails but its satisfying. sunday, used the friends i made at the bike park and shuttled reddish knob so i didnt have to climb.

i didnt ride any trails other than reddish knob but apparently there are some nice flow trails near the wolf ridge parking lot, for some reason i think they are called dog park trails? also heard great things about the single trail surrounding massanutten, apparently theres a small fee you pay at the bike shop at the mountain and they can give you a guide on a nice loop.

im looking forward to heading back down to the area.

oh yea and try jack browns for awesome burgers. best ive ever had

Would you recommend shuttling reddish knob?
I could probably get my wife to shuttle me. I usually don’t the easy way out but if the climb isn’t interesting and long, it might be better to spend my time on other trails.

Go to Massanutten. Clearly marked trails. I'm sure you can find a map with minimal effort

The climb is a road climb. Boring, steep and long. If you can get a shuttle absolutely get it. if you can't grind up the downhill is worth it.

You may be able to find a shuttle group through one of the local shops

+1 on jack browns. They also had great wings. There is a small park in Harrisonburg called hillendale, not great, but right in town.

Look up the stoopid 50 route. Lots of good trail in that. It’s basically the Shenandoah Mountain 100 without the fire roads.

To update: rode Massanutten Friday Saturday (Friday it poured the whole ride). Trails were fun, a lot of flow but still had some tech. Sunday I rode reddish knob. It may have been from recent hard rains, but the first half of reddish knob was washed out or very loose shale. The bottom was fun. I was supposed to do narrowback immediately after descending wolf creek but time constraints forced me to pull the plug.
Cool area that I didn’t know much about. Similar drive time compared to raystown, and closer than kingdom. A lot more food options than both, plus a lot of wineries. We did eat at bill jacks although it was packed to the gills with college kids. The Joshua Wilton house was as good as any Michelin star restaurant I’ve been too.

I plan on going back to do a proper riding focused weekend.

Im referred so many people to massanutten, but ive never actually ridden there. Im always there thanksgiving week, and it’s closed during the week that time of year for hunting. I really need to make it down and ride.

I was in Lynchhurh Va. 2 weeks ago did a couple of days riding Liberty/Candler Mtn. The riding in Va seems to be real nice with a mixture of riding styles. Planning to move there next summer, will definitely be enjoying the riding.
