The 2026 January BIYF

Thursday plan was to grind away on the trainer.

Should have been a Zone 2 workout as I did the identical workout a week ago but today’s AVG HR was 138 not 128. 🤷‍♂️ I’ll chalk it up to legs being a little zapped from yesterday.

Trainer setup is dialed in after some charger cord rerouting

Jim whilst you are blasting around Hurrican at race pace, take some notes for me on any sections that are actually nice to spend some time camping and biking. I backpacked a section near Ocala that overlapped a little with the route but I think the nicer parts were a no-bikes wilderness area. Also curious if you come across sugar sand that forces you to air down….

I so desperately wanted to get outside today assuming I'll be in the basement for the next several. So I ended class early to give myself enough time to get in an hour at Chimney Rock. I'm so glad I did. I was a bit hesitant that conditions would be either a sheet of ice or slush/mud, thankfully neither. The layer of ice has just enough snow to provide good traction. I only slipped once climbing. I could have ridden all day if I only had the time, sigh.

Recovery spin and stretching are having a positive effect I felt much better today could have even kept going at my steady pace if not for work meetings.

the only real option today outdoors would have been a road ride and the narrowed shoulders and icy spots still a no go for me.

I do foresee some snow covered road riding on the midfat bike in my future tho. That would be much better than zwift for sure.

Since I don’t have any outdoor pictures I’ll share a pic of jazmin giving me the death stare from earlier since she had not eaten her dinner yet.

Studded tires are a game changer. I aim to ride over as much ice as possible when equipped with them!
