Chimney Rock Conditions

FYI, lots of reports this week of stings on the way to Cromwell near Vosselar crossing. One of our group got hit there on Wednesday night.

So today I had us avoid going that way (didn't want the kiddos getting stung and ruining their ride).

Welllllllll, it seems we stumbled upon a yellow jacket nest on lower blue. One of the kids got stung once, one of the dads took at least 5.

Rough spot (we cleared out so I didn't get a pin) on the map below.

Also, a gentle reminder that yellow hackers are the a-holes of the stinging world. They sting because we exist. Most of the others at least wait until provoked and do it in self-defense.

My boy just sent me some pics of tree down on red (would LOVE to say I'll get to it but my work life lately leaves little time for TM...have tons of trimming scheduled in my head but all w/ TBD):

If you’re a local, it’s great and the best I’ve seen in quite a while.

If you’re part of a large group that’s going to cruise around and have music coming from your handlebars, and get in the way, it’s a swamp. I’d suggest anywhere but Chimney Rock.

🤣

One tree down on the backside of the ballpark loop, right where it gets nice and flowy.

Oooooh, that's a good heads-up!!! Like you said, things pick up speed there.

For those that use it, the wasps are back on the fire road between the connector to the top of red and Mountain Top/Newman's.

Same tree as last year, a new hole is bored into the stump higher up from last year's.

Blue dot on the map below. If you stay on the far side of the fire road when passing they don't seem to be bothered.

Forgot to post up the other day, but another yellow jacket nest on blue. Front tire was partially parked right on top of their hole in the ground. Lucky it was late enough in the evening that they weren't aggressive. Maybe they're not quite the a-holes I took them for? Nah, they are.

It looks like it's been that way for awhile, so I assume it's known, but the bridge leading onto Blue From Newman's is collapsed.

There's this life insurance money maker in Cromwell. Pic really doesn't show it, but it's tenuously hanging there.

Bridge is broken! @Kirt was aware, we are developing a repair plan for approval.

I walked a half loop of blue - threw some sticks off the trail -
There are some boards missing from the TTF, and the ramp is starting to collapse.

There is a tree across the trail, 150m before the Newman's lot on the trail that does not have the collapsed bridge.
I didn't have my saw!

Do we really need a ramp to get over a 10" log?
