Is it possible to convert and old 3x9 to 1x12

Need to replace both my chain and cassette and am tired of my 15 year old SRAM gripshift. Current bike has 3x9 XT on it with some hadley hubs. I'd like to take the 1x12 NX off the new bike that's on it's way and be able to use it on my old bike then go 1x12 XT on the new bike. New bike would be like for like so that should be fine but can I convert a 15 year old 3x9 setup with a new 1x12?

Sure. Here’s an old Cannondale prophet recently converted.

And pretty much anything that's a SRAM upgrade is XD driver.
