    Did you ride today?

Had to walk up part of Green Pond Road like a chump, though.

    Did you ride today?

Trying to recover from torn knee ligaments and a sprained shoulder from a ski crash... ...put in a 47.5 mile loop from Roxbury to Newfoundland on the fixed gear. I think I'll be okay.

    What is your Jens factor?

Got a good laugh out of that one. Apocalyptic? Let's drop some gears, add some snow and then talk about what HC means. (Shot while riding this past Saturday)

    Climb/Descent right of way?

Flat singletrack (Six Mile Run) is a lot more challenging on the yield than uphill or downhill. I think common sense told me to give climbers right away when I first started riding, solely because I know what it is like to break a climb and wouldn't want to subject someone else to the misery of...

    Commuting

I'm still going... today was consecutive commute no. 339. Nothing new to report from my neck of the woods except for an exploding headset a couple weeks ago. Limped it home and spent a week on Plan B bike while a pretty new King set came in. Slowly losing my love affair with Crank Brothers.

The Toughest Road Climbs in NJ

Agreed. This is my favorite part of New Jersey to ride bar none. Great scenery, low traffic (even when the roads are open), varied terrain. Can't be beat this time of year.

The Toughest Road Climbs in NJ

I thought they'd have a lot of that area cordoned off due to the gov't shutdown. Old Mine Road is open?

    Velofest 2013 - This Saturday!

The key (one which you will find many, many, many others have discovered) is to get there hella early. Like, well before gates open style. Show up mid-morning and you'll be picking through scraps.

    Commuting

Commuting diary (a few days late): Woop woop! Just crossed 300 consecutive work days. No desire to stop at this point. Strangely looking forward to the cold again.

Long rides: Fixed Gear / Singlespeed

Planning another long one from Succasunna out to PA and back via some side roads that straddle 46. Trying to stay off 46 as much as possible, though a couple sections (including Hackettstown) are inevitable; also trying not to double-back. On the way home I am trying to avoid riding/walking...

    Commuting

Forgot to post on here; This past Friday marked one full year of commuting by bicycle. 275 consecutive rides to work in a row. My commute is short, but I logged 1,963 miles on this fixed gear over the last 365 days. Rode through a hurricane, blizzard and all sorts of other lovely weather...

Long rides: Fixed Gear / Singlespeed

I would say that if I had flat enough terrain around me, I would be game for 100+ miles. I have ridden the fixed so exclusively on the road that the inability to coast is just an accepted norm at this point. From where I'm at, though, there's no direction I can go 50 miles out without...

    Tour De France 2013

You know, I often wonder what Greg LeMond would have to say if a guy were somehow able to take back 58 seconds on a 16 mile time trial...

Long rides: Fixed Gear / Singlespeed

As the Strava data shows, some sections were TOUGH for me. The first 8 or so and last 10 were particularly dreadful, but having surpassed my previous distance ride by almost 30 miles it's wholly expected. I'm sure that 80-100 milers would be more tolerable for a guy at my fitness level if I...

    Wildlife

Of any situation to encounter a bear in the woods, I think a DH bike under my ass and gravity on my side would pretty much be a best-case scenario anytime!
