    Top vs bottom chain guide

I just went out and adjusted the chain and was able to remove 3 full links. Amazing how loose it was. I followed the park tool guide of “size it for a perfect fit, then add 1 full link.” Let’s see how it rides this weekend. As confirmation I let the air out of my shock and compressed it with...

I don’t notice much chain slap noise, I’ll try removing a few links and see how it goes. Thanks!

Looks like all roads for a clutch mech mean at least new shifter as well. I may try removing a few links from my chain as I didn’t do that when switching to 1x. Let’s see how it rides after that. Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Also if anyone has an old groupset (mech, shifter, cassette...

    Top vs bottom chain guide

I saw these online, seems like a good deal. It says only compatible with advent shifters...anyone try it yet?

Yeah 9 speed...I just found out that clutch 9 speed isn’t really a thing. So if clutch 10 sp will work with my shifter, a Shimano 9 spd, great! But I’m not sure this will work. And I really don’t want to get a new groupset right now. This makes trying the $10 tensioner look more appealing.

Wow thanks for the great responses everyone! This makes better sense. Any votes for best value derailleur...or anyone have a spare 9 sp clutch derailleur? I hate to buy a new 9 sp derailleur instead of just upgrade to 10 sp set...but that might be my best option.

    Top vs bottom chain guide

I just switched to a 1x narrow wide ring and I have an XT (non clutch) mech. I’ve been riding the new ring for a few weeks and I love it but I had it drop the chain once during a fall In the interest of being really frugal....My options are a $10 bottom tensioner, mounted on the chainstay...

    WTB 1” threaded fork

Thanks Jim, the black would work fine for me. Also, nicely organized tools...makes me jealous with my rusty table saw top holding wrenches and Allen keys. How much for the fork?

    WTB 1” threaded fork

I measured and it’s around 5 1/8” from the bottom of the crown race.

    WTB 1” threaded fork

Hey thanks for the offer, I need a 1” threaded...ideally v-brake, but I suppose I could just use the rears if it’s cantilever.

    WTB 1” threaded fork

I’m looking for a 1” threaded fork to replace my shaky fork in my spare bike, a 26er. Rigid or suspension fork are both acceptable. Thanks!

    One question...60 or 70mm stem

Went for the first ride today w/ 45mm wake stem and 30t 1x chainring. No issues with the stem thus far, climbing was fine and descending felt steady. Steering was slightly more touchy but not necessarily “twitchy”...maybe just responsive. Also,30t snail chainring worked great so far. No drops...

    One question...60 or 70mm stem

I like this approach^...sounds like a 70mm is the best for a first try. Thanks all! By the way...I had bought a 45mm wake $10 stem a week ago and haven’t put it in yet. Anyone think it’s a horrible idea...geometry and safety-wise?

    One question...60 or 70mm stem

I’ve had my Scott spark 29er for 3 yrs, it’s an xc bike but I use it for general trail riding. It’s got a 69 deg head angle and 750mm bars (just upgraded from 700mm this season). It currently has the 90mm stock stem, which must be changed because....upgrades. I’m between a 60 and 70mm stem. I’d...

    Best climb back to TOS

Thanks Pete, glad I’m not the only one walking. Funny you mention it, I was using trailforks, I started on the correct trail then crossed a fire road and went down a trail with a “C” sign. I guess there are multiple “C” trails? After looking on Maprika it looks like cannonball sorta splits...
