Fort Collins, CO, now. Sol Vista is only 2 hours away from me these days. Idaho is about 8... worth a weekend trip. Altitude training camp at my place for the NYCMTB-Peak Bikes team the week before nationals... ;)
DH Nat's are at Beech in NC this year- a much closer trip for you. Weird...
Definitely going this year now that I'm close enough to drive.
Could be nice to add on a trip to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone while you're out there...
If you're in a sparsely populated 40+ class, you are absolutely allowed under USAC rules to enter in the younger 19-29 class. Masters racers are allowed to race in younger classes, the only exception being that those over 19 may not race down into the juniors classes.
In general, I think...
I'm really surprised at the negativity around this. Basically this was Trek saying that Gary's 29ers were becoming so much of the mtb market that they had to fold them into the primary brand (rather than compete against themselves). I like the new paint and was never a fan of the crazy bright...

Everyone I know who used to race 24 hour races is now racing 50's and 100's (myself included- I haven't raced the 24HOA since 2004). 24 hour races are dying all across America- it's not just an Allamuchy phenomenon. And the ultras are getting bigger and bigger each year.
Of course, scheduling...
The platforms do add something, if you're talking about technical trail riding. I've broken the sole stiffening plate of spd shoes by hucking with regular Shimano SPD's (no platform). The platform does a much better job of spreading the impact over the sole.
As far as riding lift-served DH on...
