I have two pairs of Pearl Izumi Elite thermal tights that are almost 20 years old. I wear them with regular riding shorts from low 50s to well below freezing, they work perfect for me.

It works fine. I have Stan's Podium's on one gravel bike and Crest's on another, both running 42s.
