What have you done to your bike today?

Thanks, Karate. Looks like there's yet another way to strengthen my rear fender stays!

    The DIY thread - DIYourself

As is probably pretty obvious at this point, I really love listening to recorded music. Over the last couple of years, I've begun installing acoustic panels with the hope of improving the sound quality in my modest living room. The layout/construction of the room gives you every reason to assume...

Ha, I stand corrected based on a YouTube video just posted. This guy knows his stuff. If sounds like the Costco product isn't what I called a diffuser but more an absorber. Either way, though, the impact is limited to high(er) frequencies:

New Study: Higher Cardiac Plaque Calcification in High Intensity Athletes

My family physician said that without changing anything to impact the course of the calcification, the "average change" is an increase of 10% per year. I don't know if that's a proven estimate or just my doc's ballpark figure. It bears mentioning that he's a general practitioner, not a lipidologist.

New Study: Higher Cardiac Plaque Calcification in High Intensity Athletes

Since the CAC test measures calcified plaque, I'm not sure that there's much evidence for reversal. Staying the same, though, would seem like a good goal.

New Study: Higher Cardiac Plaque Calcification in High Intensity Athletes

I'm curious, Frank -- has your doctor referred to these persistently high LDL levels as "Familial hypercholesterolemia?" FH is pretty rare, but when nothing seems to lower a high LDL and there's a genetic component, I've got to wonder... I'm glad that Repatha has improved things so dramatically!

Hi, Walt. The value of these panels would depend on what you're seeking to improve. With the relatively thin panel depth and wooden slats on the front, these wouldn't have any meaningful effect on lower midrange and bass acoustics (the common issue being "boomy" or "mushy" bass). These panels...

What have you done to your bike today?

I'll keep that in mind, John. I used needle-nosed pliers to shape the coat hanger. Do you think I'd be able to do the same with the welding wire? With the added strength, that might be difficult to do with pliers. Maybe I would need to put it in a vice and hammer it into shape?

    Chimney Rock Conditions

Yes, Rob, think you'd be fine tomorrow on a regular MTB. I had my fatbike out earlier and it was great, but I'd say the snow was only ~2" deep -- 3" at the most -- so you should be able to get more than adequate traction.

What have you done to your bike today?

And...I'm happy to report that the fender worked! There were only a couple of inches of snow this morning at Chimney Rock, but the bike and my back were snow-free. It appears that Patrick's "pro-tip" to Rain-X the rims was doing the job, too, although I think I'd need to ride in some deeper snow...

What have you done to your bike today?

My riding has been limited recently, particularly by orthopedic issues: first, achilles tendinosis, followed by (and still present to a degree) plantar fasciosis. But, the most recent prediction of rideable snowfall has gotten me motivated. I resurrected an old fatbike rear wheel fender that fit...
