Initial impression of Spearfish.

After 2 different rides in different terrains I have a better understanding of the whole "downcountry" thing. It's basically an XC race bike with Trail Bike handling and geo. It will climb well and hold it's own when the going gets rocky. However a a true XC bike like an Epic will climb faster and a Stumpy will blitz rock gardens. A Downcountry Bike will do both at like 80-90%

As an example I went for 2 KOMs tonight, which I already have, set on 2 different bikes. The first is a brutally steep, loose, climb that I set when I had my Camber. I got within 30 seconds and definitely lost time on the steep section from the 120mm fork and shorter stem. The second section is a long technical rock trail with no clean lines, it's just a shit show start to finish. I set this on the Stumpy in the 27.5+ configuration. Again, was about 30 seconds off. No KOMs for me. However, if I connected these 2 segments into a single segment, the Spearfish would come out ahead.

Downcountry. It's a thing.
