I can't catch up to this thread to save my life. But, these pants are great. I got turned on to these by @Kaleidopete He recommended the sizing. I do the same as Paul with the thermal in the super cold. I wear a 4XL in these things and have 2 pair. I don't wear a 4XL in anything else. They are definitely whacky on their sizing.

Thanks @Paul H that's the kind of info i'm looking for. It's the little things that can get annoying, and make the ride not as much fun.

My dad had a similar story, his parents passed when he was young and didn't get to finish school. Was out on his own at 14 and eventually became a cop. At around 25 he was put in detention camps for being a "counter revolutionary" and was there for 8 years till he escaped and swam to Hong Kong which was over 14 hrs in the water. No wonder my dad can't relate to me or my kids. He's got some stories which would make anyone appreciate America.

My bike is a Motebecane Boris the Evil Brut from Bikes Direct. I bought it for snow. It does well, but once you get over 6", I don't care what bike you have it starts to suck badly unless its powdery, which it never is. I think the sweet spot is 2-4". My bike is heavy. That is why you always see me at the back of the pack. It is also not the best tool for the riding we have been doing. But, I'm working on that. I had to sell off 2 of my FS bikes when I was unemployed earlier in the year.

@huffster hows the fatty in the snow? anything you would do different?

I am looking at this guy but I'm questioning a ss in snow. I only plan to ride this in the snow I can't do what Tim does.

I'm getting a bikesdirect fatty fuck spending real money on something I'm going to only use in the snow, I just don't know if I want gears or not hmmmm
This is a personal decision, but I'd suggest gears with hills and snow. I did do the SS thing for awhile. I even had an SS/FS with tensioners and all that stupid-ness. Now I have gears on everything. I will say this for SS. It will make your legs strong and improve your tech skills. You have to use your upper and lower body to make that bike do what you want vs. cheating with gears.

As you can see I'm playing catch-up. Still 16 pages behind. The frame on that bike is 12 pounds. The weight is all in the wheels, tires, fork. If you spend some big $$$ you can make a fat-bike light. This brings us back to SS and rigid. You can drop a lot of weight between that and a set of carbon wheels.

Never tried a fat bike, but I tried and lift @huffster 's bike in Ringwood...that thing must be forged in depleted uranium, it weights a ton!

The site actually lists 5" capable bikes, but I think they still come with 4" wheelsets so that would be an investment on top.
My Boris is a few years old. I have 4.5s and I believe I have had 4.8s on there. I don't have the original wheels. They were Wienmann and they sucked. The Bluto fork fits the 4.8s and might even have some spare room.

I just want to post to say I'm caught up. I'm sure by tomorrow you will post 20 more pages and I won't be anymore. And maybe if I can find an old photo, I will post it. But, again that might be way out of context by the time I get to it.

I won't see you all tomorrow. Getting together with family.
Probably took 2 hours to read through the mess. Post one anyway.
