The 2018 Winter Olympics Thread

Oh shit, she's went to the same school as Kale's kids. at kingdom.

Yes one of my Ski Team kids found her in Colorado and asked her to prom, he then got to dance with her at the mountain and when he asked for a kiss she politely denied him. He got it all on video. Kids are ballsy these days.

Saw the first run, fell asleep during the mens DH....Wife woke me up at 2am when she got home from work right at the moment where I got to see the outcome...Goddam that was awesome, ill have to watch the actual run later today.

I watched the first runs of giant slalom, then also knocked out during mens. The speed difference is just unreal. I mean everyone out of the top 4 was like +5 sec. Brutal transition at the half way point. Good to see Mikaela take the win.

I loved how the lady from North Korea came in at like +60 sec in last place and then they zoom in on the crowd of North Korean cheerleaders. We'll probably see this footage on the North Korean news how she got gold and beat 57 other Americans doing it.

This is the only time you'll ever hear "great execution by North Korea" and not be horrified.

I need a documentary on the history of the luge/bobsled. It seems so difficult to create the course, and it's really all or nothing. Like if it's not a mile long then it's not a sport. But the investment to make the first one was huge. I'm not imagining how this crept up out of a simpler sport or some natural condition. I guess I should google it...

okay, so they started by racing on frozen roads. wow.
mid step is this.
wow it's really evolved. The course they make for the olympics must cost a fortune.

Was in Lake Placid in September and took the tour. Bus ride to the top with history and facts. Included a wheeled bobsled run down a concrete run. In winter, the run is on ice. Once at the top on bus tour, you can walk down to the bottom.

Can you slide down on a skateboard or something?
I would consider riding a bike down while ice free. Skeleton participants are not right in the head.

Learned on the tour, start area is approximately 3" thick, rest of the run is 1/2"thick. View in pic of the banked turn is hard carved and maintained.
