So I did the ghetto split tube tubeless on my rear wheel along with Schwalbe Nobby Nic last week.
Last week, ran them at 40psi so to have an apple to apple comparison with the previous Kenda. Heck of a lot more traction and I was doing climbs I wasn't able to do before. Today, ran them at 30psi, those same climbs felt easier today with the lower air pressure. Not to mention... there were ice on the trails this morning. It felt great to be able to climb sections that I felt I had the legs for but always got knocked off the saddle from the rear spinning out. Considering, now that I am pedaling and in the saddle more, 10 miles now isn't exactly the same anymore. Also that extra gear made a lot of difference in today's ride. In my current fitness and strength, that one gear was what I was missing and it's just perfect on climbs. In addition,
@soundz gave me a XT? RD and we slapped that on the Talon last night and holy moly... that thing is butter! I also had the both wheels trued and with the combination of above mentioned upgrades, the it felt like a different bike.... but familiar at the same time. Does this make sense?
I have been told that my Talon is not worth doing the upgrades and that I should buy a new bike. I agree with this statement but after having a conversation with soundz, he pointed out something that also made sense. He asked when I thought I would be able to get a new bike. My answer was that it won't be anytime soon and what i realized on today's ride was that the upgrades made me enjoy the ride that much more. So.... my decision.... no I am not going to pour tons of money on the bike. But... just like soundz said, if there are used parts coming along for a few bucks, I should jump on them. Couple of things I want to try... crankset, wider bar and eventually wheels. I guess I need to take a look at what is currently on it. All I know is that it has a square taper BB and I am thinking I need to change this out as well.
At the same time, I am going to throw the current parts from my Talon on to the Walgoose as they get replaced. Well... I guess I need to go out to the garage and work on the Walgoose. It will be getting an 8 spd drivetrain.
