What do you pack for CX races? Things that makes race days easier?

You should keep towels and water bottles in your car 365 days a year.

Floor mats are good. I got the winter mats when I bought my car a few years ago and leave 1 of the old ones in the back. Bonus was when I dumped diesel winter additive all over it last year.

Pump/toolbox/bike stand. Often have multiple kits but always have several changes of gloves/head covering/socks.

Something to eat immediately when it's all over. Beer sounds good when you make these lists but after a balls-out effort I rarely find beer does anything but give me a headache.

Advil.

A generic bag of food that we will eat virtually none of. It will travel upwards of 200 miles, sit around a field, then travel those same 200 miles home. Then you can unpack it and think about how the bananas now look like shit and you forgot you had that Caramel Almond & Seat Salt Kind bar in there.

1. cash
2. cooler bag (water, drink/recovery mixes, fruit, fig newtons)
3. change of clothes (don’t forget undeez and extra socks)
4. towels
5. slippers/sandals
6. 2nd kit
7. Inflator/pump
8. spray adhesive
9. spare wheels
10. megaphone
11. chair
12. *baby wipes will be added for 2015

I assume this is exactly the same packing list that male adult video stars would use for shoots. Except perhaps "spare wheels.' That and the "inflator/pump" may be shaped a bit different.

I have a love/hate relationship with bag chairs. In theory they are great. In practice it goes like this:

Norm enters stage, sets up 3 bag chairs.
Norm: Hey, anyone want to sit down?
9 people: no no no, I'm good standing
Norm turns around, for 4 seconds
Norm: Hey ah...
Each chair has 3 people sitting in it now

@soulchild whats the 2nd kit for? rtalk.

It started with having an extra 'just in case'. Being 2 hours from home, it just made more sense to have than not to have. Then last year I did 2 races at Nittany when I had a mechanical in the 9am race and changed, then later in the day decided to do an afternoon race and didn't want to throw on a nasty kit again. Plus there are some races (like Nittany this weekend) where I won't be going off until 3 in the afternoon so again, the previous sentence applies.

I wanted to let Lou answer first, but for me I sweat like a pig and sometimes I get there early, ride the course a few times, sweat too much, then want to change for the race itself. I have only ever done this a few times but I have done it.

The NJ Cup races start for me at something gross like 1:45. D goes at 11. So we'll be there at like 9:00 which is a long time before I race. So I may actually get into the 3 kit rotation on those days.

Seems legit and obviously if you are racing more than once.

Wait, 3 kits for one day of racing? When you extracted it from your brain and wrote that in text, does it still make sense?

Exactly this. Plus I think Norm and I have the same sweat gene.

you are suppose to warm up in your street clothes, i heard its more pro/hipster?

That's why I was rockin the baggies doe 😀. If not I'd have to bring 3 sets of street clothes on top of 2 kits.

Keep a clean one for a podium pic? CMON, the bait had to be taken 🙂

I'm a 3 now bro, I won't be seeing any podiums. I just get to line up next to homies and enjoy the having my face melted off.

I hate warming up in street clothes, I never really got that. I also tend to crash/fall during warmup as I test out lines. Remember that time at Nittany a couple years ago when we were out as a group pre -riding the course and my tire slipped out on a random root? That was funny.

I always bring a second kit just in case I make a mess of the first one during warmup or rip it.

So when do you glue the number on?

did you wear your baggies in the car? not pro

Negative sir. I put the baggies on after hanging a bit in street clothes.

In an effort to improve my gear-results.com ranking, I will be going with the following moving foward:

1. Outfit to arrive/reg in.
2. Outfit to pre-ride in.
3. Outfit to cool down in.
4. Outfit to race in.
5. Choice of 2 outfits for post race / hang out / go eat in.
