Commuting

Excellent use of a sick day- Nice Chinese plastic.

Here you go, this is from my collection of uploaded rides which people might find useful. The paved county trail up to the Croton Reservoir, then cutting across on some dirt roads to the dam and the aquaduct trail back down to Yonkers where you join up with the county trail again.

nice 6th gonna make this a Friday after work when days are longer. Right now I need a plan from the rt 287 area to Harrison, NY which will require a route to GW then up to westchester for Easter morning. plan is to have wife drop me off and meet her at her sisters house in Harrison...

Biked 4 times this past week. Most riding i've done in a looong time 😀

It gets better and you find when you don't it's a crappy day of work. Wait till you have those "man I really don't want to ride home" but you have no choice. Turn those pedals for couple revolutions and it all goes away.

I've been checking out this thread you guys have inspired me to start commuting to work. My commute is 12 miles each way from Dunellen to Bridgewater and it's relatively flat. I have old Fuji Crosstown 7 speed that I picked up on the cheap and I'm going to give it a shot. It already had fenders, a rack and a tailight. I spent the last week tuning it up so I'm going to give it a go. I put on a CREE 1200 Lumen headlight and I got a key to the locker room at work so I can take a shower when I get there. Does anybody have any other advice?

Dunellen to bwater gives you a few route options, that will be a nice commute. I used to live in Middlesex.

A couple of things off the top of my head:
-ride the route before you actually try to commute.
-plan extra time at first, once you get a routine dialed in it gets faster and easier.
-if you are going to change at work, stash extras there if you can. A belt, socks, underwear, etc. There will be days you forget something. If you are in business attire it can't hurt to keep a complete outfit at work if you can store it, just in case.
-make sure you have a decent repair kit- tubes, pump, multi tool, quick links, zip ties/safety pins

Have fun with it. It takes time to figure out what works best. With a local commute like yours, if driving in a weeks worth of clothes is an option that will allow you to enjoy the ride more and not have to worry about carrying clothes in and out.

JUST DO IT!

Depends who you r. I like picking clothes in morning. Never know what my mood is.

Obey traffic laws as much as you can. If its too tight, ride the sidewalk here and there. Signal your turns.

Like chris says after a few days, you will get the routine down. The ride to work always feels longer cause honestly who wants to be at work. Numb your mind.

What a great day to ride in. The ride home should be allsome.

Agree and decided to roll with bibs only, though i have enough hair on legs to go down 0 Celsius. I managed some murder efforts in the park with swapping seated/standing intervals. I seem to have a serious tooth problem, after each ride lately i go through excruciating pain for 15 mins in the tooth jaw area. Calling the dentist today.

Sorry you're ailing there Matty-
When first I read this, I thought your tooth problem was around ss gearing.
Rule out sinus issues- these sometimes read as tooth/jaw pain.
Given the consistent pattern after your ride/effort, I'd be inclined to consider that.

I had that day yesterday! I had a real bad headache. 1-10, it was a 10. I didn't think I was going to make it home but like half way home it was subsiding. I think I'm just allergic to work. Then I cooked a mean london broil over charcoal.

Manny, now that I don't have to yell to you down Main St, it was good to see you. You looked like a Cat 1 commuter with those panniers on that rig son

I almost forgot some crazy dude was driving his car in the park blowing the traffic lights and buzzing cyclist including me twice. Only employees are to drive at that time and they are going so slow that we fly by. This fucker was either loaded or had a vendetta. Whats even more crazy is that the place is usually loaded with cops in cars but none to be found. Coincidence?
