I think my ad idea is better, all they needed to do to is if they wanted to use that same slogan is photoshop a picture of the car with a bike on the roof in the background.

Subaru figured out a long time ago that they were the undisputed king of selling cars to lesbians, and they didn't try. So then they decided TO try and became the first major company to advertise openly to gays.
I'll find the original ad when I'm at a computer.
Subaru was different, different people loved their cars. They have jumped to the ordinary, now I hate them.
I want them back to weird cars that come with granola in the glove box.
I don't mind a small trunk if that means the suspension isn't a piece of crap. My heart sank when they made the choice to sacrifise the "car" for more trunk space.

Wow that text in that ad must have created the same kind of uproar 15 years ago that this new ad is doing. I now imagine their ad exec as some guy in a hidden office somewhere in some Subaru building smoking crack and laughing his/her ass off.

Oh and that Toyota / Subaru coupe is going to suck. They picked the wrong parts from the wrong companies.
Toyota built, but Toyota lost he ability to make a fun car 20 years ago.
Subaru engine, but it's an awkward boxer engine with terrible weight distribution. Last I saw the engine was still IN the headlights.
They should have had Subaru build the car but put the old celica engine. But that engine needs a little redo, they cheaper out on the rod size really bad, it's got like geo metro size rod bearings in it that fail. Makes good power though and could be placed low and set back behind he k frame like a vette. Bu I guess they have no option at all for a rwd transmission. The subi trans is basically a rwd setup, a small rework to delete the front axles. Or offer it in awd after 3 years.

Looks like Toyota is trying to recreate the AE86. unfortunately that toyota is a distant memory. IMO, They are trying to make a car to complete with the hyundai genisis and the using the AE86 as inspiration will make it seem more attractive. However it will be nothing like the orginal car. It will be the usual toyota borefest.

Agree...the last Toyota i can remember that had any passion was the '84 - '85 Celica GT-S Convertible, a wedge-shaped beauty (with manual tranny being the choicest option...only 50 MT's produced). As I recall ACS did the conversions. Then in '86 Toyota introduced their take on the egg shape that Ford began to peddle with the first Taurus, and all hope was lost...

linky to pic here...(note, that's not me in the pic!)

Here is a full pic I found of the ad and some discussion on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=101616856688&topic=18411&post=271215

To be honest, unless that Subie has some mud terrain tires and extra clearance, it's going to have some issues getting thru that slop. Although I'm sure they towed the car in and threw mud on the bike tire for the "look"

I drive off-road and things do get muddy. However proper off-road driving will be on a jeep road and done at a slow pace. The problem I have with the photo is instead of a double track that road has been blown out so much wider.

Personally driving in deep mud pits isn't that fun. It makes an utter mess of the vehicle and when you get stuck getting the winch line out and hooked up sucks. Not to mention possible hydrolock from deep water. Driving on a slick, off camber, rocky area is a lot more of a challenge and it's why I enjoy places like Rausch Creek a lot more than the Pine Barrens.

That ad could have gotten the point across without so much mud. Change the title from "Mud" to "Dirt" and dry things out a bit. Both the bike and the car could have been pretty messy but having 2"s of caked mud on the tire of the bike and the mud pit in the background?

And because of Toyota all cars will have the accelerator override brakes. For 95% that view cars as just a way to get from A to B, it's nothing. But for the rest of us, it's one more way to dumb down the experience. And I was just reading in C&D about auto parallel parking features on more cars. Pretty soon you will not be able to buy anything with a standard gearbox. Everyone's cars are getting dull.

The more I drive my basic a$s Defender the more I love it. I can't talk on the phone in it, because I can't hear the person talking not to mention I need to shift the gearbox. No ABS, so I have to think about exactly what I'm doing when driving in the snow or rain. I hear everything and I can tell what it's doing and going on. But when the sun's out, temps are mild and the top is off, there is nothing better.

It's the conflicting message that's this issue. Nature Valley, Citibank, Milk, e-Trade etc don't actively promote or get involved in trail care...as evidenced by the ads you've pointed out, they probably couldn't give a rat's you-know-what. The fact that this ad is coming from Subaru (first, only and long-time supplier of vehicles to the IMBA Trail Care Crew) is the problem.
