I'm shopping for new lights and need advice. We ride at a very fast pace so I need a light that is really bright. Im sure its going to be pricey but my old niterider isn't cutting it anymore any info/experience would be much appreciated.

I'd suggest to go with a Light & Motion Stella 300 on the bars and a Stella 200 on the helmet. The 300 has two light heads that can be positioned to light up the trail quite nicely with one light pointed at the front wheel and the other down the trail

The NiteRider TriNewt is super bright, but heavy and big for a helmet mount.

The Light and Motion Secca 900 on the bars and a Stella 200 on the helmet if you have no budget.

All the higher end LED options from the big names are really nice, you cant go wrong.

If I had to choose between a helmet or bar light alone, I'd go with Helmet. Both together is best in my opinion, because the bar light makes shadows and helps with depth perception. The helmet light shines where your head is pointed, but doesn't make shadows because its next to your eyes.

+1 he speaks the troof

I have the stella 700 for the bars and the 200 for helmet. You certainly don't need to go above the 700. That sucka is super bright.

Have you tried the 300 yet? This is the exact set up I was thinking of doing.

Not riding the bike, but we did a side by side one night with a bunch of different systems and the 300 is quite impressive. I'd rather have the two lightheads than a stronger single lighthead after seeing how you can position them to shine in different spots to tune the beam.

That's what I was thinking. You can do almost a custom set up with them.

I've only used the Stella 200 on my helmet and it works fine. Never feel like I could have seen something else and rode better. But thats just me, im slow.

I picked-up a Magicshine in August. They claim 900 lumens, which is probably overstated, but I've personally ridden next to a Stella 200L and the Magicshine blew it away. It only cost $84, shipped.

I was looking for a light early in the Summer, and everyone's experience was pushing me way over-budget. I respect quality products, but this light has ticked all the right buttons. So far it's rock solid, has decent run time, and a nice pattern. If my fall riding keeps-up I'll probably pick-up a second light and do the bar+helmet thing.

Light & Motion Stella 300 on the bars.

This is what I have and love them. When riding with some people at 6 MILE, we all stopped and checked out the lights of each rider. Reason I slowed up the pack.

The Stella 300 lights I have give you great depth perception and really light up both trail and road. Plus the battery life is good. Had it high and lasted longer then the time's I was caught riding after sunset at 6 mile and other trails.😉

I can't believe I'm doing this but.....

Hey RonCs, is there one button to turn on the 300, or can you run it with one light on and the other off? Does each lamp have its own on/off?

The following is from someone who doesn't own lights, so take it FWIW:

Check out the light shootout at MTBR because there are tons of comparison photos.

The Stellas are getting some great reviews from local people so that speaks volumes.

If you want to check out a local company, look into Princeton Tec. Also keep an eye on chainlove if you like these.

Dinotte lights keep catching my eye every time I start to research lights (which is about once every 3 months or so)

Yes there is one button, and no you cannot turn on and off individual lights, that would have been cool, but no.

The other issue I have, there is no extensions code that comes with the light, like I have seen with other Light & Motion products.

And Walters if you want to try the lights, I can let you barrow mine to try if you want too...

Kev, I ride with my stella on my bars, but pearl and mandi ride with it on their helmets. I have been really happy with it, and as like some one pointed out, I like the low profile. I think I may pick up the 300 for the bars and go with the 200 for my dome.
