The First (possibly annual) MTBNJam - 2022

Just to clear things up or cause more confusion, what is the difference between beginner, intermediate and advanced? Mileage? Social aspect? Drop or no drop? Expected pace?

While I enjoy hard charging up the hill and downhill I also don’t mind waiting for friends…

The 9:00 and 11:00 rides will be broken down into the following:

  1. Beginner: Allamuchy
  2. Intermediate: Allamuchy
  3. Intermediate: Stephens
  4. Advanced: Allamuchy

All no drop. Each ride will have a sweeper. I think pace/mileage will be the main difference, at least between Intermediate/Advanced, but I'll let @Norm give the official answer.

This is impossible to answer. Know your lane, is my best suggestion.

Don't ride with Nagy unless you can handle his rides.

I have been doing group things for almost 15 years now and there has never been a good answer.

As a self proclaimed advanced beginner, I have attended some of the mtbnj group rides where the same type of ride groups were organized I can confirm that on the beginner ride, everyone stayed together, waited, walked, helped, fell, rested and busted balls to everyone's liking and satisfaction (at Stephens State Park). Sweeps where there too to make sure no one was dying/left for dead.

From what I recall, the short track loop is less of a challenge than the 12 mile loop we did at SSP but I have not been there since 2018 when I pretended to race in the snow on a 10 year old MTB (see my profile pic). I will have my 15 year old son with me so we wont be taking any chances on his first real trail ride in a while.

Hope that helps.

@Norm is knowing who Nagy is a pre-req to even consider advanced? Lol.

I know Stephens very well. Riding from the camp I’ve never done and it’s been years since I’ve ridden Mooch North and Deer. Always interested in seeing other folks loops. I consider myself an intermediate with fun ambitions to ride it all for long… just looping the short course sounds fun though to burn my legs out.

Here is what we know about Nagy
If you like Stephens with that fast and flowing ride then your on the wrong ride. Now if you like your ride between stupid and dumb well then your on the right ride. Joking of course but maybe not. One should assume all of norths favs are in his Arsenals Rolly Lumpy Candy.

It is, I can never tell if your name is Jimvree Land or Jimvre Eland. Weird.
It’s a Dutch origin name….. the Mayflower equivalent of the Ellis Island people probably dropped a dozen or so letters off the original just so it would fit on the paper.🤪😉😇😎

thats because noone cares enough to try and figure it out!
