Chimney Rock Conditions

I affirm conditions are spectacular.

Big tree down on lower blue.

Yup, was bone dry yesterday afternoon. But we got alot of rain in Bridgewater last night and it's cloudy today. I would not count on good conditions today.

I rode red and blue yesterday afternoon (avoiding lower blue of course). The full day of sunshine and new growth made for surprisingly good conditions considering the recent torrential rains.

The Old Tullo Connector OTOH has become a permanent mess. Is that trail under the patronage of the maintenance crews?

I realize it's off the beaten path, I don't mind doing some work to improve it since my wife and I use it regularly but don't want to get in trouble for such wanton vigilantism.

Did a bunch of trimming on the ballfields and it's mostly dry, usually 1 of the worse parts, so should be good to go.

We really don't do anything on that section and don't plan on it. It's basically lower wetlands and the options are very limited. Stone or boardwalk are about it. Both are too expensive/time consuming for a seldomly used trailhead. Even the trail that it connects too is a problem. We laid stone some years back and it needs a refresher coat. But with the cost of stone, probably won't happen anytime soon. If you have another idea and want to tackle it, reach out to the Park Commission to see if they are open to it.

Yes, it was always problematic. But it has become much worse on account of recent erosion having caused a runoff stream that used to cross the trail to converge with it instead.

I actually have several tons of field stones from a retaining wall I replaced on my property - and even a way of getting them to the trail - but no expertise in laying them properly.

Do you have a contact at the Park Commission?

Rode most of it today. Was ok but not great. Upper blue was soft with muddy spots. Orange from its high point down to the guard rail showed lots of standing water. Rideable but not perfect. It will get better with each passing day though.

anyone venture out this morning/lunch break - even if it was just walking? wondering how the trails are after yesterday's storms and today's sunshine/breeze...

I was there early doing some trimming and from what I saw, it’s ok. 2 riders came by and only 1 looked a little muddy, other clean. Some standing water and a little bit of mud here and there. This was on the eastern side, so blue/white may be different. I think you’ll be mostly fine today, with Tomorrow probably being even better.
