Youth rides and racing

My son is 12 and loves cycling and nothing else. I need some direction to get him involved in group rides and races. He was on a bmx team and had a coach in Pa but since our move to Nj has lost intrest in bmx. He wants to meet other kids who bike riding with just dad isn't cool any more.

I always remember a couple of younger kids that age riding at the Allaire beginner rides. That would be a start in terms of meeting other little dudes that shred. I'm not familiar with the little tike race scene, maybe someone else could chime on that.

At 12 he can compete in the H2H series, correct? There is also a 3 race kids/High School series which is a more relaxed atmosphere, short course and more heavily attended in the K-5 age group. Also, check out the Tri-Harder Kids Triathalon series - I think Jess at Marty's is heavily involved in that.

Yes the 3 kids races in NJ are great: Jungle, Kittatinny and Hilltop. Team Bulldog has a junior development program as part of their team. Team Town Cycle as well.

M.A.S.S. races have a Cat 3 (beginner) Junior U13 class. That class usually races a shorter course than the rest of the Cat 3's.

Thanks everyone for the info. Looks like we're gonna try some of the mass series. My son has reguested that I race as well should be fun its been 12 years.
