Jeeze you haven't been following Pat very long. For him, BIYF = BOMAR (Bulk Of My Annual Riding) :p
Nope, just a little over a year, I'm brand new to the cycling scene. I'm not sure what BIYF is, I gather it's a logging miles competition on strava, or something to that effect.

I do a merino wool like Kevin. 20s and lower I use a fleece cap with windstop. In the woods I wear my full face in sub-freezing temps for warm cheeks.

My hats must always cover my ear holes. My biggest Achilles heel, even more so than feet and hands, is cold air in my ears.
< 40 thin fleece skull cap which cover ears
< 20 neoprene Gator liner with ear flaps
< 0 all out tactical balaclava

Winter riding contest usually measured by time for mortals. Should start soon, but with @fidodie being busy working this year, Do we need someone to step up?

Cold air in your ears? All my caps cover my ears.

I volunteered. Prepare for pain!

I tried my skiing helmet once for a particularly cold ride - holy crap was that too hot.

I recently bought a thin headband that can cover my ears. Hopefully that will be a nice compromise.
