Lefty Wheelset confusion!

Hey, I admit I know nothing of wheel sets but mine have gone through the ringer I don't know if I'm too heavy or just too tough on the bike but I have decided, with black Friday sales to start looking for deals. There's too many choices out there. I have a Scalpel 2 and just looking for a slight upgrade. I'm about 190lbs so they should be well built. And able to mount on a lefty fork. My current wheels are Mavic Crossroc 29s

Any suggestions or deals out there?

Stan's Arch if you want strong and a smidge lighter than the Flow. Otherwise Flow MK3 with Maxxis Minions and you won't be able to destroy them.

Or

Ibis Carbon

I have been rolling on a set of Reynolds plus wheels from the last 2 years over 4000 mile never broke a spoke or went out of true. I have replace the bearings in the I9's a few times. The only thing I would change would be to Chris King Hubs, with the excellent CK bearings.

I can not say the same for my Stan Valor wheels, junk hubs and broken spokes.

How can I make these work with my axle and lefty fork?

I' be nervous with carbon the way I ride !
That is a good price but there is no drop down menu to choose freehub driver or lefty option for front wheel. I would call them an ask if it's available with a lefty front axle option and ask what the hub is, 10spd or 11, sram or shimano. Also this is not a boost spacing, it's 12x142.

Okay so I managed to find a wheelset (take off) a newer 2016 lefty. They are Stans ZTR ARCH EX. The seller is saying they will not fit my hub because they are 60mm hub. Do any of you lefty know-it-alls know the changes made over the last few years in regards to lefty hubs? I have a 2014 lefty

The new lefty hub is wider I think it will mount up but you will need a brake adapter... I actually have both style lefties and both style wheels in my garage if I get a minute I'll give this a try

If your scalpel wasn't the older version I would offer to sell you my Stans valors which are the best wheels you will ever ride but they are off my 2017 scalpel different Fork and ai offset rear

The more I try and research the more confused I get. At this point I'm no longer sure which lefty I have on my bike. Cannondale website doesn't offer any information on the 2014 lefty. Is it considered the hybrid like the 2013 or the 2.0 like the 2015. Thanks for all the input guys.

'14 Lefty uses the SL hub, think it's 50mm width, and I would consider it a Hybrid. SM (Super Max) hub is 60mm and will fit the Lefty 2.0 only.

So I'm old news. Going to have a hard time finding an older style than a newer one. I considered building one because I was always curious to try, but something tells me a lefty wheel isn't ideal for learning....

Okay so let's say I want to try and build a wheelset to expand my options... I am mechanically inclined and I think I can manage the wrench turning- it's the selecting that stresses me. So I'd go with a lefty sl hub, and a 142x12 rear hub.

What type of riding do you plan on doing? The Scalpel is a XC bike.

Are you looking to build something on a budget? Using the phrase: "Strong, light and cheap - pick two"

Tire size is something else to consider.

I ride the xc trails we have here in Jersey mainly- but I tend to prefer the more technical and rocky trails. I do plan on getting back in to racing next season but mainly for fun, you wont see me on a podium. Id like to keep the price low, less than 500. Keep in mind I'm 190lbs so if strong means stiff, then stiff and cheap.

I like the idea of wider tires and perhaps a wider rim but I'd need to make sure it would clear my frame properly.

Building a lefty wheel is really no different than building a standard hub wheel. You just need an adapter set so that you can fit the hub to a standard truing stand. Other than that, the build up is the same. If you were close by you could borrow the one that I have.

There are quite a number of spoke calculators out there now. I tend to cross check on a couple of them just to be sure. I've used these:

If you stick with standard 14/15 double butted spokes in three cross pattern, they will be plenty strong.
