What tree should I plant

Red maple has probably been the best suggestion. My personal favorite being the October Glory. I would stay away from Norway’s and Sugar maples though.

My first choice for a shade tree would be a white oak (quercus alba) or swamp white oak (quercus bicolor), but it doesn’t sound like you have enough room for one as it grows.

Kwanzan or yoshino cherry would be good options if you want some nice spring color

If you want to help native species you need to plant native. And not invasive. Here is a list of options with pros/cons.

Careful with Home Depot - some of their plants are treated with glyphosate which will kill bees and entire bee colonies if they get the pollen.

You must be confused with something else, because if you treat a plant with glyphosate (Roundup), you'll kill it.
