My gut on this one is that it was part of a machine, rather than an individual tool.

That stone looks like it could be held back or advanced by a pawl. That would cause motion over the roller.
The offset is interesting.


Maybe Pete has sone resources

Judging by material, pivots and gear or cog end I would say it was part of a mill tool. Lord knows NJ had many mills. The heavy stone roller could have been seed crushed for flour. Just a thought.

This makes the most sense. As to where it was found, it was found in somebody's house; thw owner has since passed.
